I survived my first camping trip!

Thursday morning mom started packing some of my stuff. I started getting worried that we were moving again since we've done it a few times already in the last year so I huddled against her and pouted till she petted me and reassured me. I knew something was really up when Auntie Sarah came and we loaded up in the car.

It was a nice hour and a half of wagging my tongue at the world out the window.

When we arrived at this place it was full of round little houses and all my aunties and uncles were there! There was a big fire in the center and all this great human food floating around. I was going crazy with all the smells and could wander around the site because I was hooked up to a long zip line over everyone's heads. I was told to stay away from copperhead snakes and to chase all the bunnies and squirrels I wanted to. Everyone told me I was a good protector of the camp! :)

Then mama put my floaties on and we walked down this short path behind the campsite to the Shenandoah river. I was so excited I lept right in! Then mama got in with me while Auntie Karen watched from the stairs. I was good at swimming in the current but sometimes I floated down a little far and had to get up on the bank to get back to the stairs. Mama and Karen laughed at me while I tried to bite the floating foam and when mama picked me up I kept swimming in the air! Karen was upset she didn't have her video camera so she could put it on youtube so everyone could see... An hour later everyone else came floating down the river from a spot they hiked to and called out to me even when I was barking at them from the water.

We all got out after they splashed me a little bit and played around in the water since we all heard thunder in the distance. I then learned that laying next to the fire was my favorite spot at the campsite. It was warm and the humans passed around yummy treats that mama let them give to me since I was and would be doing a bunch of activities. It was a short time before the storm hit and I found my new favorite spot under the picnic table where everyone was huddling and playing card games. Thunderstorms are great inside but outside they're really really scary! :(

A little later the storm finally passed and it was getting dark. I got a lot of walks around the park and helped clean dishes and escort the ladies to the bathroom. During these trips I chased baby bunnies and gave welcome barks to new campers coming in from the parking lot.

I was a good little girl sleeping in mamas tent as well. She put one of my mats at the end of her bed and I stayed there all night till she said good morning.

The rest of the time there was pretty much the same. Sleeping by the campfire, swimming, hiking and mowing down on treats and goodies. I also tried to chase a huge four legged animal my mama called a deer!

In the end I only had two ticks on me and a good time. Everyone said I was a very good doggy and that I was welcome to come back at the end of the summer! Hopefully daddy will make that trip and see what a great swimmer and hiker I am.

Well I have to go now since mama is going to give me a bath and then I'll wanna go back to sleep. Hope you other corgis get to go camping sometime too! Maybe we'll meet each other out in the big woods sometime!

Woof!

Sounds like a good way to do it. Izzy hates to be tied out so I think she purposely gets wound around something right away. This year we are going to try a little garden trim fence since we don't leave them out unless we are there anyway. She will probably jump it!! She is a little stinker! Have fun camping.

Bev - We'll be going again at the end of the summer which I'm already excited about!

Geri - Sadly all the humans forgot their cameras but hopefully my mom can explain exactly how they did it.

Next time we'll remember to stop at the store and get a waterproof cam. Everyone figured someone else was going to bring one hahaha.

It's the easiest thing if you know how to do knots. Just buy a long semi-thick rope at home-depo or whatever hardware store is nearby. Use a cooler or the picnic table to stand on and wrap the rope around the tree or pole once (trees are better cuz the bark helps hold the rope up) with the other end around the tree - tie the end of the rope on the other side so you can tighten/loosen it if you need to bring the rope up or down. Then do the same on the other side.

You can use two things for the leash itself. Tie another rope to a rock climbing clip and a smaller one that hooks to your pup or you can buy a leash at a pet store that snaps around the neck and has a clip built in already (which we did) Then if the rope is low enough you can just unhook your pup for walks without having to put on another leash/collar.

That sounds like so much fun, Roxi! I want to take Sidney camping, and I think the zipline is a great idea. Do you think your mom can post a picture of something, so I'll know how to set it up?

Mine love camping trips too! Sounds like yours was a great success. I don't know what they like better, meeting so many new people and dogs or that we are with them almost 24-7. Hope you get to go on another soon.
