Info about Bear's antifreeze poisoning

Unless you read it on the mycorgi post or hear it on the our local news you wouldn't know about poor Bear and her encounter with Anti-freeze.
On the 18th of Feb. our neighbor came into pur fenced back yard in the middle of the night and put Anti-freeze in my two Corgi's water bowl. They are inside dogs (but when they are outside playing I want them to have water.) On the 19th Bear only drank from it and I noticed she wasn't acting normal right away so I was looking on our porch to see if she ate something like a frog or lizard and threw it back up so I could tell the vet what it was. I noticed blue in the water bowl, freeked out because I was pretty sure it was Anti-freeze which after tested it turned out it was. They started the antidote and charcoal treated right away. She was in the emergency vet at night and then I regular vet during the day so I was taking her back and forth because someone had to watch her 24 hrs a day. On the 21st they told me there was nothing else they could do for her as her kidneys were starting to fail. They said in Cooper City Fla , about 2 hrs south of me they had a Dialysis machine that might help. So I took her right away to them. They started Dialysis but called me at 12:00am and said that the Machine had stoped working and my only hope was to take her to Gainesville, Fl to UF Vet school because they have only 1 of 4 Hemodialysis machines in the US. I picked her up and drove thru the night and got her there at 7:00am. They started treatment, not giving me much hope she would live. She was taking 3 treatments a week up until this past monday when they called and told me her kidneys were functioning properly and there was no further need for Dialysis at all. She seems to have come thru it without alot of damage but only time will tell for sure. We were so very lucky! We are waiting for the evidence to come back from the lab so hopefully we can charge the S.O.B with animal cruelty. If that fails I will press other charges to make him pay for they $20,000.00 in vet bills and to make sure it's in the papers and Tv so everyone knows what he did.

Bear is still doing great. She goes to the vet on Tues for her final (hopefully) check up. If her kidneys are still working properly she will get a clean bill of health. It areally is a miracle! Thanks again for all the prayers. I think if animal abuser got stiffer sentences , not counseling and probation they would think twice about what they do to our furry little friends. Please take a moment and write your local senator, governors, judges and poice captains. With enough concerns from us the citizens maybe someone will take action. If I can't proscute this creep thru the legal system, I will file charges thru the civil courts. You're right, He does need to be made an example of. He thinks he's felt heat on his job, that's mild considering the heat he's going to feel from me in court.

Clearly... Winston sent a stinky fart his way. He also sends Bear some love <3 as do I.

Thanks for giving them a piece of your mind Lauren + Winston! I don't know if they are really that dumb but they are most certainly uninformed about the true circumstance of the reason for the poisoning. It had less to do about Bear barking and more to do with him not wanting anyone to clear the trees and build on the lot beside him. Bottom line, he's alittle unstable if you ask me:)

I don't pay any attention to the lame comments. They are people who don't know me or how devoted I am to my dogs. I figure most of them are either the suspected poisoner or his friends. My dogs never bark unless his dog has it's nose stick thru the fence barking at them. They are never outside without me. Bottom line no one ever had a problem with them except him. He's always been the neighbor from hell and this act just proves he's crazy as well. He's also the Captain of our Fire Dept. Who knows what people are capable of?

Thank goodness that Bear is recovering. That is so scary. Thank goodness you got all the right advice and took action! Your Bear is a lucky little guy! We had a neighbor do that to one of our dogs about 15 years ago when we lived in town. The local vet didn't diagnosis it and our poor little schnoodle died a sad painful death. It still brings tears to my eyes. I don't understand why some people can be that way. Evil people exists. Let this also be a message to all dog and cat owners. Antifreeze has an appealing odor and taste to animals, the damage can be devastating unless immediate action is taken. Pay attention to drips from your own vehicles and on driveways when you are walking your dogs. People still flush their cars right into the street gutters without knowing the danger.
