I just switched Nigel to a harness when I take him out for walks. Seems to have helped - no more pulling against his throat which was causing him to cough and gag.

Finnigan sometimes drinks too fast then coughs. he also does the reverse sneezing. The sneazing started when he was about 9 months old I think. If your vet checked him and found nothing I;m sure he's fine. When it comes to sneezing and coughing the breed shouldn't effect that.

Sid reverse sneezes when he gets really excited about something. My corgi/elkhound mix does it often, usually at mealtime. Until I got corgis/corgi mixes I had never witnessed a reverse sneeze, so I guess it's more common with these guys.

Thank you - very helpful, especially the videos. I think Nigel is drinking too fast and is reverse sneezing.

If you want to see the difference between a reverse sneeze and a cough this web site shows a video of each. Although it is about kennel cough I found it very helpful. Both of my corgis coughed after drinking when they were puppies, I think they drink too fast and inhale some water. As adults it only happened when they were really thirsty and went to fast. The reverse sneeze is normal. I don't know about the cough but they do tend to do everything with enthusiasm so maybe he is drinking too fast.
