jingle jingle jingle jingle jingle jingle

No! It's not the sound of reindeer on my rooftop. It's the sound of the dog tags jingling as my dogs scratch, scratch and scratch some more!

I am so frustrated! I think there's a flea infestation at the barn from the barn cats. So I take the dogs to the barn, and even if they are on flea preventative they come home in fleas.

Last week, I gave them a flea bath and then treated them with Pro Meris. They stayed away from the barn for a week. They went out on Sunday and came home scratching. I found about 5 fleas a piece on each corgi! AAAGH!

(meanwhile the cat, who's on Advantage, is flea free and lovin life)

So my options are

1. don't go to the barn. Which I don't think I can do because I work 40 hours a week, excluding the commute and I ride 4 days a week.

2. treat the barn cats with advantage or something.( I will have to do it because the old cowboy barn manager doesn't like my new fangled ways).

3. put the corgis on Comfortis tablets along with the topical.

Any ideas on how to break the cycle would be appreciated!

Katie-Capstar is only good for a few days, I would go with the Comfortis is lasts for 30 days but like i said earlier I only give it to my 2 about every 2 months but make sure you give it on a full belly

You guys are so informative! I am learning so much. The good news is I do have them on Sentinel, and I am calling the vet tomorrow for comfortis and capstar (I think that is a scrip too).

Have horses also and those adopted feral cats about six of them from other barn members being good samaratins! Both of mine go to the barn and I do have them on Comfortis and their Sentinal also with flea control it works well. Nothing dies in SC doesn't seem to stay cold long enough. Sometimes though my allergic male scratches I end up putting him in tub with clear water and a little baking soda and he comes out scratch free mostly he's dirty and scratches afterwards ~keep us posted

We use Comfortis also, with 100% success!! No topical would be needed when using comfortis. Additionally, our vet switch our heartworm preventative to Sentinal, which also stops the flea cycle. I would highly recommend both. But, you need to get rid of the fleas in the environment in and around your house.

A couple years ago we had a small problem with the fleas in the house. I go a spray (enviroment friendly) from the vet, sorry I don't recall the name of it. Which I used to spray the entire house, carpets, furniture and patio area. Then I hired a professional to spray the yard. Two weeks after that I used Borateem (you get it at the grocery store) to treat the inside of the house again. It kills the eggs. Here's a link to a page that give instructions on how to use it. It works!!! ~~~> http://www.fleawars.com/treat_house.html

Good luck!

i would try a diffrent flea topical, i use k9advantix and i swear by it. down here the fleas are sooooooo bad that u just cant imagine how long it takes to make your home flea free. when i use advantix on teddy, i will see the fleas hop on and hop right back off along with mosquitoes. the thing with fleas it may repel but somtimes u get that flea who cant take a hint so he hopes on he gets a dose of the medication and gets "hot feet" and falls off to die. the vets actually down here refuse to sell promeris and it has killed alot of dogs in my area. it causes seizures in most cases and one had their lab in a coma state. i would switch it to the one i told u about or vectra 3d(i have never tried it but its suppose to be amazing,so i heard lol) so like same said wash and spray everything. i have come to find out that raid flea killer is my best friend during flea season:) lol

I had never heard of Shoo Tags, so I did a search (boy do I love the web). There seems to be a lot of disagreement about whether they work. I did find a couple of sites with comments from people who actually used them vs. the company's testimonials and the folks who just assume they're bunk.

Some people swear by them and have had great success -- http://ginnypuppysdogjournal.blogspot.com/2009/06/does-anyone-know-...

Others, not so much... http://thedish.sitstay.com/2010/05/05/may-4-human-shootag-review-co...

But Shoo Tags apparently offers a 30-day money back guarantee...

I use Siphotrol premise spray on their bedding and carpeting, etc. The corgis go to the barn at least 2-3 times a week, so I think Comfortis will be my best bet, and then I am going to use flea spray on them when they get to the barn or when they leave the barn.
