Starbuck is 14 and a half weeks old, and she is the light of my life.
We took her yesterday to get her third puppy shots and rabies. She's a huge puppy at 10.6! Well, maybe she's not huge, but even though we've only had her for 6 weeks, we find ourselves talking about "when she was little." When we brought her home from the breeder, she was a whole 5.6... hence the "when she was little." She was great at the vet. She didn't cry at all. I gave her her treats, so no vomiting on the way home. Her tummy is very specific about can and can't enter and how it exits once it does enter.
I learned a few things while we were at the vet. ...Like even though she's vaccinated, we're supposed to wait two weeks for the rabies to kick in. We also learned that she's getting a fourth distemper shot. Is that normal? I thought it was three puppy shots and rabies, but I guess I was wrong. The vet talked to us about her spay. He said we could spay anytime we want between now and 6 months. We'll still wait until 6 months, but I thought that was interesting. I asked him a few questions about the surgery (what kind, the sutures, overnight...). He was pleased with my questions because he said he normally doesn't get to explain those things. Starbuck's vet is in the office of the vet my ferret used to love, but that vet left right when Starbuck moved in. I was so disappointed, but we decided to stay in the same office because I love the staff.
Starbuck really is the best puppy we could have ever asked for. I'm sure some of that comes from her breeder (Celestial Star), but her inner puppy spirit is heartwarming (no pun intended haha). Her personality is just like us. I hate the TV, but her daddy loves it. Yesterday was the rare day when I didn't have to be up at 6 and he did. After he left, Bucks cried for me, so I went into the living room... where I found her licking the TV that was turned off. In my sleepy daze, I turned the TV on... and she sat nose to screen with it, watching it until we both fell asleep again. That's her daddy! But, she imitates my facial expressions. She often cocks her head at us when we're being silly as if to say, "Guys... uh, maybe you need time in your crate?" She also eats like me. She'll go crazy for popcorn... often ending up inside of my bowl. And she cuddles. She's the best puppy cuddler.
While this has gotten to be long and probably uninteresting, I will leave you all with a picture... This is how much she loves being brushed...
