"I would have her checked out. As a sports fan I can tell you that soft tissue injuries can be ignored when there is something more "fun" to focus on. Corgis can be tough little dogs!"

"I imagine it's possible for a dog to learn to fake a limp, but they would need to get something out of it (food, attention, etc) and make the association that the limping movement was what was bringing on the reward. What is more likely is…"

Faking a limp?

Starbuck started limping on and a off a few weeks ago after the Florida picnic. We figured she just played too hard, so we restricted her activity. We thought she was getting better, but for Thanksgiving week, we went out of town and she stayed with her grandpa. He said she was limping a little, but she was still digging and running like a pro. We figured she was fine. Once we got back, she was really limping, so I made an appointment with her vet two days in advance. That night rolled around,…See More

Beth commented on Stephanie, Greg, Starbuck's blog post Starbuck's first day as a babysitter!
"I'm glad Starbuck had such a good day! I also agree that within reason letting kids poke around at a young dog does help socialize it; I sometimes wonder if dogs get worried about being poked at because when someone pokes, the dog's person…"

Starbuck's first day as a babysitter!

This story begins with the fact that I am a recent college grad with the same job I had as a student-- babysitter. I've worked for one family for a year and a half and love them to pieces. There are two little girls and I alternate with both. Starbuck's daddy and I have been able to make it so someone is home every 4 hours to let her potty and play with her... until this week. He's out of town for a week and a half. What's a mommy of a puppy to do? Take her puppy to work! (this is where…See More

About My Corgi(s):
Hello. My name is Starbuck... named after the Battlestar Galactica character-- my daddy chose my name. I love to splash in my water bowl all the time, and then I bark when all my water is gone. I love playing with my plushie mailman. He squeaks and rattles. He's the best! I still do like playing with my teddy bear from when I was with my siblings, but I'm very happy with my new mommy and daddy. They give me lots of treats for doing the strangest things! I mean, I get a treat when I potty!! How silly are they? Anyway, my big brother is what they call a fuzz-butt, but I think he's a ferret. I chase him a lot, and he bites my nose, and we repeat this a few times before one of us falls asleep. Oh, and I like to sleep on my side with one of my front paws dancing. Mommy says it's the cutest thing she's ever seen when I do the paw dance... so I do it just for her. She thinks I'm sleeping, but I'm really devising a plan to finish eating the wall I started.
I have:

Loving Starbuck

Posted on July 18, 2009 at 10:47am 4 Comments

Starbuck is 14 and a half weeks old, and she is the light of my life.

We took her yesterday to get her third puppy shots and rabies. She's a huge puppy at 10.6! Well, maybe she's not huge, but even though we've only had her for 6 weeks, we find ourselves talking about "when she was little." When we brought her home from the breeder, she was a whole 5.6... hence the "when she was little." She was great at the vet. She didn't cry at all. I gave her her treats, so no vomiting on the way… Continue

Ten Weeks!

Starbuck was ten weeks old yesterday. She got her second puppy shots. She was very nice to the vet... until they gave her a shot. She cried and cried, and it broke my heart! She has a slight ear infection, so they cleaned out her ears. She gets to have medicine for the next couple weeks. She hates it. When we were on our way to reward her with a snowcone, she threw up in the car... so we turned around and headed straight back to the vet. She got her temperature taken and took it like a champ!… Continue

Six Week Visit!

Posted on May 24, 2009 at 10:05pm 2 Comments

My boyfriend and I met our puppy Starbuck today. She's about 6 and a half weeks, and we bring her home in less than two weeks! She's awesome. At first I was nervous because she was the only puppy not jumping around and stuff. She just laid quietly in my arms. My only thought was, "Please don't let her always be the puppy alone in the corner!" meaning please let her not be antisocial and scared of everything. After just a few minutes, she livened up and gave lots of kissies-- my favorite scent… Continue
