Maddie thinks guinea pigs would be good squeaky toys, and doesn't understand why shoppers won't share their treats:
Today we decided to take Maddie to PetSmart and leave Jack home. When we walk the two of them, Jack is Mr Personality and will run right up to people and try to lick their faces. Maddie is also very friendly, but she is just a bit more reserved than Jack. So, what usually ends up happening is that Jack gets all the attention, and Maddie just wanders around sniffing the ground. We have found that even when we say "And this is Maddie; she's very friendly too!" people just naturally pay the most attention to the dog who is acting like a long-lost friend, and less attention to the one who is being calm and well-mannered.
Worried that she is getting less socialized as time goes by, and needing to get her used to riding in a car harness instead of a crate, we decided to kill two birds with one stone and take her to PetSmart.
In the car, she started chewing the seatbelt, so Shawn sat in the back with her to praise her for being good and stop her from trying to chew her way free. With a friend in the back, she settled right down and was so good.
She had a great time at the pet store, with lots of people stopping to tell her how pretty she is and how soft her coat is. One little boy even announced that we had just made his kid sister's day: apparently, she is in love with Corgis and never met one in real life before today. More than one person mentioned they'd never seen one except on the tv dog shows.
But Maddie's favorite part, by far, was trying to find any open bags of treats! We were reading labels on some canned foods, looking for something for an occasional mix-in treat, and I looked down to find her plastered on her belly, three-quarters of the way under the end cap, chasing a loose piece of kibble. She came out with dust bunnies hanging off her snout. Now I wish I got THAT on video!
