As per the vet...I prefer to use the term "big boned". She went in for an update on her vaccines and during her physical, we were informed that she is 37 lbs...which is apparently 10 lbs too much...you can't feel her ribs, she has no waist, etc..Ouch! Needless to say, when I left there I felt like a bad mom. So now Maple is on a strict diet, going on brisk walks and is only allowed 1 treat per day. Basically, she has been enrolled in doggy boot camp! So I am just wondering, for any of you out there who has/had an overweight corgi on a diet, how quickly do you notice a change? It has been nearly a month and I don't see much of a difference. Your opinions are definitely appreciated! Thank you!!!

Have you taken her in for a weight check? Sometimes you may not notice the difference because you see her everyday but you  may be surprised what she may have lost when you go in and put her on the scale. Franklin averaged about 1/2 a pound a month. He was only about 3 to 4 pounds overweight but he lost it very gradually. Any loss is going in the right direction. Keep up the good work!

It takes awhile. You could use frozen green beans and apples for healthy snacks also:) I have a couple that are getting smaller portions right now but it's much easier if caught when they only need to lose a couple  pounds.

Don't feel bad...I tried to convince the vet for months that all of Seanna's weight was from her hair.  :-)

She was 5 pounds overweight, and when she tore her first ACL, I took it seriously.  It took us a good 3-4 months before I really noticed a difference.  We went in 1-2 times a month for weigh in's.  We went to no treats, no people food.  Carrots for treats, pumpkin mix in food for extra substance.  Even then, she only dropped the weight when we had to switch her to Royal Canin S/O for her urinary issues.  She was getting 1 cup twice a day, and now gets a lower calorie food, and only 1/4 cup twice a day.  It seems like a small amount, but she has maintained now for over two years.  She's a steady 23#, down from 29#.  It can be done!!
