Dog Class was a lot of fun...we work on a lot of stuff...walking figure 8's around other dogs, greeting, come, lay down, and then some agility stuff....there were a lot of dogs in class tonight, most of them TIgger was familiar with...there was a new little jack or corgi mix that was very whiny...and came close to Tig and had some NTN and Tigger growled at her. And then another GS that Tig is v.v. familiar with came up and did NTN contact, and Tig growled and curled his lip at him.... we ususally just walk around each other or near each other...needless to say, NTN contact is just bad for Tig. Other than that he was great...we worked on the slide, and his heel was his best ever- no tightness in the leash. He's gotten really obedient, now I've got to get Molly into class...because Tig is making Molly (the perfect dog) look BAD!

The other dogs are invading Tig's space and he is just correcting them. The instructor at the training facility that I practice at has a strict policy about not allowing your dog to get into another dog's face. She would say that the other dogs are at fault (or rather their handlers) and not Tig.

Sounds to me like Tig is doing great, and he is not actually attacking the other dogs, he is just putting them in their place!

It took me about a year to find a trainer, some wanted me to just drop my dog off for a month, others wouldn't work with dogs that had some previous aggression issues. But I have found a great trainer...her dogs are certified search & rescue dogs and she leads a search dog club here in Dallas...at all of our classes there are different levels of trained dogs- all levels of Search & Rescue ( I think there are 3) some dogs are getting over aggression issues, others just needing obedience training. TIG is usually the smallest dog there among the labs, german shepards, retreivers and pit bulls. It has really helped my confidence being around strange big dogs.

I wish Tig would come teach Finn to heel. He's like a tiny stampeding Elephant on a leash. :)

Are you taking classes at Petsmart or somewhere else?

I find that when a dog is leashed they are often going to be a little snarky in a NTN greet. It is just not the way they would greet off leash usually they will sniff the rear first. Also, they must feel vulnerable because they are leashed. That is great you are going to class!
