Hello, everyone.

This is our first day as a member of mycorgi.com :-)
So let us tell you about our little captain.

Everything started when someone offered us a female corgi in May.
We were exited because the corgi is one of my (Chris') favorite dog breeds along with the German Shepherd.
So we were kind of prepared to get that corgi but they decided to keep her.
Disappointed but determined to get a corgi, we started an online search and found 'Lakeshore Pembroke welsh corgi rescue' website.
There were about 10 corgis available and one of them, a 1 year and a half old male corgi caught my eye.
After we sent in an application, the foster mom suggested another dog for us.
On June 13th we drove to Wausau Wisconsin from Chicago to meet that corgi, and we ended up with taking the one I initially wanted.
He is a good looking red-headed tri color corgi.
Despite his young age and cuteness, he wasn't adopted and had to stay at foster home about 6 months.
Because (maybe) he does not look like a typical (?) corgi and has too much energy.
He didn't even know any basic commands like 'sit' and needed a lot of exercise and training.
(The foster mom said he can be an excellent candidate for agility competition.)

He is smaller than other corgis.
According to the foster mom, his early life was not that great.
He was from a puppy mill and abused.
He was beaten and grabbed by the collar.
So when we tried to pet his head, he always backed away or turned upside down to prevent being handled.
It was sad to see this cute little boy acted like that.
He wanted to trust people but he didn't know how.
But there was something special about him. I just couldn't take my eye off of him even though he had a wild side.
My husband (Andrew) felt the same. From the very first moment there was some kind of strong bond with him.
That afternoon, we decided to take him home not the one we went to see. (That corgi, a beautiful red and white 2 year-old male was adopted just few days later)

We named our corgi Jeter.
Yes, that Jeter. Yankees captain Derek Jeter.
I am a die-hard Yankee fan and Derek Jeter is my favorite player.
He plays hard and plays right. He is athletic and classy yet goofy and mischievous sometimes.
That's the same feeling I got from this little corgi.
Even though he has shorter legs than the human Jeter, our Jeter definitely has cutter butt :-)

It's been a wonderful 3 months. We can't imagine our life without Jeter.
He makes us laugh more. He makes us happier. He is a bundle of joy.
He is a quick learner and learned many things so fast.
He does not back away or turn upside down like before any more.
Instead he wants us to pet him more.
He amazes lots of dog owners at the dog park by his blazing speed and jumping ability.
We can't count the number of times strangers have come up to us and said "Your dog is gorgeous".
Many people didn't know he is a corgi so sometimes they asked us "Is your dog a German Shepherd puppy?" :-)
Anyway he is the cutest dog in our neighborhood.
And he is a very happy corgi for sure.

We are glad to share Jeter's story with you.
We hope to tell you many more happy stories and adventures of our little captain.
Thanks for reading this long post and have a good night.

Welcome! He sure has that corgi smile and is very handsome!...glad you got him, sometimes those ones that no one wants end up to be those diamonds after a little polishing! I have a rescue (one of my 5 corgis) but she has this special place in my heart that started the 1st time I saw her...
