Hello,

Queenie has now been at the vet's 2 nights too many. I brought her in a couple nights ago because she was acting very depressed. We finally came to find out she has pancreatitis. Is this common with Corgi's? Has anyone else ever experienced this with their baby (ies)? Any info would be great. THANKS!

Queen eats very good. Blue Buffalo food and treats. Every now and then maybe a bite of people food. Never again though.

I hope Queenie feels better soon! I actually have had acute pancreatitus for years. It is controllable, but watch the commercial treats. All i can say is veggies veggies and some more veggies. freash veggies are good for any dog. also watch the sugars since her blood sugar is probably much higher than it should be. the pantreas controls the fats and sugars and can make you depressed at times when your balance is off. veggies can and will bring your spirits up. dogs can eats all kinds of veggies and i feed both of mine as much of them as they want altho neither suffer from a bad pancreas. I stay stay off commercial treats, find a LOT FAT LOW SUGAR dog food that she likes and stick with it. is she on any kind of enzymes to help her digest? I have to take "Pancrease" every time i eat something, except veggies, so go figure.
I have had this for 4 years now and came very close to losing my life over it, spent 4 weeks in a coma. so if you need any help let me know. oh also there organic enzymes she can take but not without the vets approval, and they are expensive.

Hi,
I'm very sorry to hear this Pancreatitus can be a very scary thing =( I had an elderly canine that had an acute case of this about 2 yrs. prior to his death. He spent along time in the vet office and was placed on a perscription diet for the rest of his life it was a LOW FAT formula I can't remember the brand. When it came to treats the vet recomended a 6% fat or less content which there was only 1 commercial brand that I found to meet that requirement it was a senior treat from NUTRO the box was grey. He did have relapses even with diet control (he had other issue's also that contributed) the important thing was his warning signals.
They were drinking alot, tenderness in the belly area, and a unwilling ness to stand/move. All relaspe's were caught early enough that he was able to be at home and only had to go to the vets every 12 hrs to have intro-fliuds given under the skin and blood pulled to check fat levels.he then was moved to a homemade chicken and rice diet with build up back to his regular food. Also with every relaspse he was fasted for 24 hrs.
I hope your baby is well and this is the only time you guys ever have to deal with this!
Puppy kisse's and Stump wags form my pack to yours =)

Is she on any meds? Some meds can affect the liver, making the dog more prone to pancreatitis. Look up "liver cleansing diet". A very low fat diet is very important to reduce the stress to the liver. Sophie has seizures and some meds for that can cause liver damage. Some people in my epi-dog group have had good luck with the homemade liver cleansing diet. Check with your vet first, though.

My neighbor's dog almost died from it after eating an entire chicken that was roasting on a rotisserie. The thing that probably saves most corgis is their short legs. Do you know what might have been the cause of it? Hope she is better soon.

Pancreatitis means inflammation of the pancreas, most common causes are greasy human food, too much calcium or an infection. If Queenie is overweight, a straight diet is needed. Here's more info. Get well soon!
