I know this isn't corgi related that much, but this does affect Dodger, but I did want to share this. So a good friend had contacted me late last night about an urgent matter. She knows I run my own business and she knows I take part in a lot of stuff that involve helping out shelters and getting pit bulls adopted out. So she contacted me and she was very upset and frantic and she begged me to help out this dog named Dusty. So she told me how this girl was being forced to give up her dog due to really harsh circumstances at home and she's in a panic trying to find someone who's going to give him a positive future instead of him landing back in a shelter (which just happens to be a high kill shelter). I didn't realize until today after my friend told me that the owner of the dog is a really close old friend of mine. Of course I was shock and immediately got in contact with her. So now that I'm aware of the situation, I'll be talking to my husband tomorrow to see how he feels about having a new addition to the family and sort out details, but it's quite possible that Dodger will have an older brother in the very near future. Even if things don't work out, I'm still going to work on finding Dusty a home.

Years ago I had a rescue Irish Setter who had been shot at(up). She would hear the thunder way before us...nothing ever helped but to keep her close. Wiley too. I don't think Wiley would let me put earmuffs on but it is an idea I could try...thx...at least it might keep her busy:)

I didn't think of this before, but I know some people muffle the sounds of certain things to their dogs using earmuffs or by play/making lots of noise to keep them distracted. You could try that and see if it helps any.

Today we are having thunder storms and we just make sure she can come to us but her big kennel is covered except the entrance and so she can also hide there too...wish we could do more.

Growing up we had a dog like that. We got his as a pup. The breeders were going to kill him because he was the runt so we ended up taking him. We don't know when it started or how it developed (probably from the fact he was getting older) severe anxiety to thunder storms, but he wouldn't just shake, he would always run for the bathrooms and hide in the tub. It was just one of those things that developed on it's own. But most anxiety is treatable, you just have to asses it and determine is it minimum, mild, severe, or really severe.

Yes and no to the anxiety. Wiley one of my corgi mixes suffers severe anxiety everytime we have thunder. I have tried so many things and realize that this will always be. I have an anxiety coat and can give her Benadryl BUT she will never overcome this. I don't know but can just guess she was either was out in it or in a tin building...poor girl just shakes so bad and no matter what I try it may be a bit better but will always be with her. I feel bad for her. All we can do is be there with her.

Glad your computer is fixed Linda. It's alright everyone. I should have said something in the post about it, but at the time of typing it I was making phone calls and my mind was doing over eighty in my head. So I apologize for not making that clearer. Like I said, it was a really big shock that my husband said no. I thought after I stopped trying to make him understand my work and pit bulls that the idea of another dog would be okay so long as it wasn't a pit bull. Apparently not. When we were first getting dogs he gave me very specific boundaries to stay within. No mutts, mix breeds, no labs, no french bulldogs, beagles, no rottweilers, only Bernese Mountain dogs, German Shepards, corgis, Alaskan Malamutes, Siberian Huskies, only really pretty dogs. That's what he wanted. Even when we were searching for one, he never wanted to fill out an rescue applications for the breed if is was available in a rescue. However even if we did get one, most places don't allow those breed of dogs. On military bases, rent homes, apartment complexes, it's very hard to find a place that accepts those breed of dogs. Except for corgis. That's how we ended up deciding on getting Dodger, we went straight to a breeder and he was content on that. I just don't know if my husband is paranoid about rescue animals or if he just dislikes it all together. He seems to be kind of okay with the idea of fostering, but not so much adopting or let alone me being a rescuer. He can't even tolerate my cat I took in a year ago. Mostly because she doesn't like his things, but still. Right now I'm trying to get a hold of my friend to check up on how Dusty is doing. As for the anxiety, true, depending on how serve the anxiety it is depends on if it'll go away or not and it also depends on how much love and work is put into the animal and time.

I'm just getting caught up on this...had computer problems and some how lost my entire email program.  Bless my husband who managed to get it back.

Somehow I got the impression that Dusty was a pit and aggressive...I apologize for that.  I hope that a good home can be found for him with someone who understands and can help him thru his issues.  And I pray that your husband can understand your deep desire to help animals.

I am sorry I made some assumptions too...I have a plate and 6 pins in my finger due to dog to dog aggression(was not bit though) so I know very well about dog aggression. My aggressive Corgi was fine in a kennel around other dogs or when out alone BUT would charge other dogs if he was out with them (and I was told he would run for a block or two to get after other dogs). Even if people say they would be careful it would not have been a safe situation for anyone and I could/would not take the chance on this.

Anxiety is another issue and that can be worked with but may never go away. There would be a great chance that you could help and find a home for this dog in the future.
