So today I stopped by the pet store that's really close to my house, just to check out what they have. Considering that it wasn't a huge store, I was really quite impressed that they had 2 aisles of different premium grain free foods! They had canned and dry stuff. And the lady at the counter who looked like she might be the owner, when I asked her what she suggested, said she recommended grain free. She also mentioned things like, feeding grain free isn't more expensive cuz you have to feed less, stuff like that. She said all the stuff at the store is good, unless the dog has had specific food related problems. I'll have to do some price comparison and stuff, see what's best, but I'll probably go there to buy dog food. This place is closer to me than the grocery store. Haha.

Also today my roommates threw a party for one of their friends, and another friend brought over his corgi! A red headed tri boy. His name is Enkei. My roommates have all been really supportive about me wanting a dog. I asked them again about me getting a dog, and they're all ok with it. It's awesome to live in a house where everyone loves dogs. And since they know corgis already and know how loud they can be, I'm glad they know what they're getting themselves into as well. Haha.

Here's to hoping it all works out!!

I've been reading a ton! But right now the more preparations I make, the more impatient it makes me to actually get the dog. Haha. After everything I've looked at, I've already decided that I'm gonna try clicker training with my dog. Seems like success rates are high and I like the results. And yup, there will definitely be lots of socializing. I have plenty of friends that're just waiting to meet my future corgi. Lol. As well as puppy friends too. I can't wait!!

John is right, read read read.  But remember, too, as many books out there on training...it seems like there's just as many opinions on how to train.  When I started out with my first pooch, I got so bogged down in the weeds.  BUT it is important to train your pup from Day 1..and it's fun, too.  Also, socialize socialize (after said pup has had the proper shots and things).  I'm excited for you!

Jen: Thank you! I hope so too! :]

Ellen: Me either! And don't you worry! I will probably be taking pictures nonstop. Haha.

Ludi: I know!! I'm missing out on precious sleep cuz I get so caught up reading about doggie stuff! And thank you! I hope so too. :]

John: Thanks for your comment. I've been reading about dogs/dog training for at least the past 15 years. Haha. I don't think there's much more I can prepare anymore without having a dog. I never thought about thrift stores or yard sales though. I'll definitely look into that. Thanks again!

Jane: Thank you! And yeah, I feel really lucky! :] I'm also really glad that the pet store closest to me is a good one, not one of those that just want to make money and sell you as much stuff as possible.

I love to shop for new pups...the person was right you don't have to feed as much grain free and never follow the recommended amount...they just want to sell the food. Good luck and it's great your housemates are all in agreement.

Especially if you've never had a dog before, I think the most important preparation you can do is reading and researching how to train a pup/dog, plan your work.  Read as much about dog training as you can -- you'll be too busy once you actually have one.

Much of the equipment you'll need can be bought for zilch at thrift stores and yard sales -- soccer balls, fanny pack, pill bottle for treats, that stuff.  A good crate is worth it, maybe a car safety harness.  But 99% of it is how you communicate with the animal.

Oh my gosh, I did the exact same thing even before I had put a deposit on Ace. I was researching brands left and right for pretty much every possible aspect of pet care - and it was so fun to do so! I really hope a corgi finds his or her way into your life soon. They are the best. :)
