the person above me is right. the best way to get rid of skunk smell is to use those ingredients. tomato juice just mask's the smell for a few hours. i used that mixture on drag when he wrestled a skunk (he really restled it!) and that worked excellent.

Best for skunk stink:
8 ounces hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
squirt of dawn or other grease cutting liquid soap.
mix in bowl. apply and let set for 5 minutes
DO NOT mix in advance and seal into a closed container, it will build up pressure.
caution: may fad black coated dogs.

I've used this 3 times with wonderful results. including on my bedding after Henry's first skunk incident.
BTW: the his encounter made him worse around skunks!

I am so glad I haven't had one of these issues yet but I am sure our turn is coming. These stories are too funny and sound like they should have been on America's Funniest Home Videos.

oh that is too funny! I love it! did the tomato juice really work? my neighbor said she didn't have any success with it when her dog met up with a skunk so I just used regular shampoo. I would have loved to have seen that duck attached to your Lizzie!!!

About three weeks ago the Corgis were all on a walk with my husband and attempted to herd a skunk. At first my husband thought it was a black cat. Well all of them exept Brodie took a shot. Fergie got the worst of it. We went through lots and lots of tomato juice! I was gone at a meeting and got the call from my husband. I laughed so hard...Although if I had been there I probably wouldn't have found it so funny. It tooks a few weeks before the odor was completely off Fergie. They seemed to enjoy the smell. When Lizzie was about six months old she used to harass the ducks we have free roaming on the farm. One afternoon when we had some folks over we heard this terrified puppy yelp and Liz comes running around the barn with a duck attached to her nubbin. The duck had obviously had enough and had chomped down on Lizzies nubbin and was not going to let go. It was the funniest thing. I think it wasss a lesson she deserved!
