I think I poked it by accident. He and his brother, Cooper were on the bed going at it as usual and I grabbed to move them apart and the next thing Radar had his eye half shut. I had to leave to go to work and when I returned he had it shut. I tried to put a warm wash cloth over it but he won't stay still. I guess a vet trip is on the agenda for tomorrow. Has anyone had this happen before?

Susan, Do not be afraid to muzzle him. It won't hurt him and it allows you to be safe while medicating him while he is so scared. Good luck.

Well, I took him to the Vet. and he has a corneal ulcer, very small. Now the problem is, I can't get the eye drops and ointment in his eye. He turns into the Tasmainian Devil Dog. OMG he is so strong and he's snapping at the bottles. Of course I have to catch him first! I'm calling the vet tomorrow to see if I can drop him off before work and let them do it. He's always been a scaredy cat!

How is Radar?

I'm so sorry to hear that, go to walmart and get a bottle of "equate" brand saline, sit down on the floor, with your legs angled, put Radar's head between your leg, use your feet to close the back so that he can't back up easily. Then use your thigh to close from the side, proceed to squirt saline in his injured eye, just have a steady stream, yes, you're going to get wet, but the saline will help rinse out any irritant. Let him rest, pay attention and see if he "paws" at it, if so, get an e-collar. If there's any gunk forming, get a warm wash cloth and gently wipe it off. He should be good next day. Get well soon!

I accidently got Jordan's eye once and we took him in they gave us rymadil and some eye flush to help keep his eye lubricated and get any yucky's out. He was fine after 5 or 6 days.

I would take him in if it's still not looking totally better just in case he has a scratched cornea. This would also be painful possibly. I haven't had this happen with a dog but I had a child with a scratched cornea from a dust storm and a cat that occasionally has some eye problems and I have to give him some drops.Hopefully all will be better in the am!

Oh and I did get Cop with my nail before, I was trying to get an Eye boogey out and he jumped and he was winking and had a swollen eye for the rest of the night. The next morning, he was as goofy as normal.

I would let him sleep it off until morning. See how he's feeling then and instead of potentially wasting the time and money to go all the way to the vet, call and see what they think. If they think you should bring him in, just check it out. Good luck! I hope he feels better
