So my brother and I both have corgis.... He just took his puppy to the vet and the vet told him that rawhides dont digest well for Corgis?! He said she gave him a bone that was good for their stomach. And he doesn't remember what it was called but I was wondering if anyone else has heard that and if you do buy a certain bone for them, what is it called?

Thank you so much everyone! & I don't know specifically what types of rawhides they are. But all of that helped me a lot! And if I find out if there IS a certain bone to not give them I will post it for everyone !

I like the compressed rawhides as it's harder for them to bite off large pieces. Having a hard time finding ones made in USA. Anyone know of a source?

Believe me, you will know it if a rawhide bothers your dogs stomach - it will throw up! Sophie can not eat any kind of basted rawhide - she throws up. There are some more natural rawhides she does fine on. She loves bully sticks. Could be the vet suggested a Nylabone maybe? that is an edible treat - but they can whack one out pretty fast.

can you get any more detail? Was it an actual bone from an animal, or a biscuit, or something like a Greenie or a DentaBone?

I give Ed and Gem rawhides...but only those that are USA made. My vet actually suggested to stay away from those made out of Country. Also, try deer or elk antlers..they don't break off and they last a long time...a good Christmas present don't you think???

I think the main issue with rawhides is that some dogs bite off big chunks and swallow them whole, which can lead to choking or the possibility of it inflating in their stomachs/intestines. I don't see why the vet would think this is a corgi-only problem though, it can happen to any breed of dog.

I give my dogs rawhides all the time and have never had an issue (knock on wood). I'm not aware of any type of bone that is specifically good for their stomachs. I only give my dogs the occasional raw bone, never cooked or smoked.

We give Lola bully sticks... we get the big pack at Costco for like $20. She LOVES them!! They have similar ones at most major pet food stores. They're the one thing she can eat & not get an upset stomach from :)
