Sad News

Today our Winston passed away.

I've been remiss in not keeping up with his story.

He had a bad spell around Easter last year (2014)but pulled through after 3 weeks of tube feedings around the clock.The chronic anemia was diagnosed as Von Willibrands disease. He gained weight back and tho the hip dysplasia made it slow going, he did well through the summer & fall. His appetite came back, he spent hours in the yard playing with his cone and when snow came, he did his fair share of rolling in it. After Christmas he started going down hill. I'd vowed not to take him back to the vet. He remained pain free untill the last week, at which point I added back in Rimadyl.

He passed away early this morning.

RIP my beloved Winston.

However, he did the job he came to do, helping your son through adolescence, and giving blessings to the rest of you too. Be consoled with the thoughts of his comfort: no more Von Willebrand's,no more monitoring calorie intake to take the burden off dysplasiac hips: a treat jar ever full, a calorie free dog dish ever full and an eternal life of frapping, napping and sleeping in sunlight.

The day you bring that little bundle of fur home is the happiest day and the day you have to say goodbye, the worst. I've lost many over the years and luckily they all had long well loved lives and that's what you have to focus on.
