Today Sidney went back to the Surgical Specialty hospital for his one month checkup. Despite his having a rough day last Thursday, he was in good spirits and moving pretty well today. I had been getting discouraged because he was just not wanting to use the leg, but in the last couple days it's like he turned a corner. He's started standing on all fours and taking a few "normal" steps as he moves around.
Today, Sidney actually let the vet manipulate his leg! Doc said he could feel no rubbing or grinding, which is how we want things to be. He says it's great that Sidney is starting to use his leg more, that he's right on track. Sidney's got a couple more months healing to go. We are going to quit the Metacam now, and just use Rimadyl when he's having a rough day. I left the vet feeling happier than I have felt in a long time.
Sidney has been going to swim therapy twice a week at the Total Dog Swim and Fitness center in Oceanside. We are so pleased with Natalie and how wonderful she is with Sidney. Sidney has one more session with the trainer, and then we go to self-swim for another month or so.
