Simon decided to lead the 'singing' at a pet blessing today!

I don't think I've ever posted what I do for a living here before, but I'm a church music director.

Anyhow, we had the Blessing of the Animals today in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Simon hates my singing (voice is my PRIMARY instrument -- I've been a professional singer since I was 15), he howls whenever I sing, he cries when I play the piano, and he's afraid of my guitar.

So -- I'm outside with my guitar and I hand Simon over to be held by one of the teens in my youth choir. There were about 40+ dogs there -- and it was QUIET. And the minute I start the music -- guess who starts 'singing'.

Yup, that's right, my boy started the 'doggie choir', and within moments, he had recruited quite a few of them to join in with the singing.

Fortunately for ME, since I wasn't the one holding him, it wasn't 'obvious' that he was MY dog! But yeah -- he got ALL the dogs going by the end of the song.

My choir members teased me that since I'm the director, Simon probably figured that since he's MY dog, that makes him the 'doggie' choir director!

We had our Blessing of the Animals yesterday...no howling though! That would have been awesome.

that is hilarious. Loki loves when I play bass or guitar, albeit he didn't like the guitar as a pup. He usually finds somewhere to sleep nearby

I think that is really funny and kind of sweet. Why shouldn't they take part in the blessing, it is for them in that way. Howl to god, or the heavens, or the hydrent.

I love it! Was it "All Things Bright and Beautiful"? That was our hymn for the animal blessing, but no dogs joined in!

At the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend one year long ago, they created an impromptu award in the Fiddle Contest for the only fiddler who could actually make a dog howl.

I love Al yodel. I should teach him to sing on cue. Could be handy.

Maybe he likes your singing and just wanted to sing along!
