Someone's Doberman peed on Jack

Ah, I will reserve the worst of my comments for my own private monologue inside my head.

Some people give dogs a bad name.

We frequently see someone with her rude adolescent Doberman, who is loose (with a metal choke chain!) in the park. I have watched him get ruder as he got older; not the dog's fault as he seems to have no boundaries. It's a shame as the dog is positively stunning and actually has the makings of a very polite boy, if he were just given half a chance.

Today, we had just begun our walk when Dobie boy came barreling over as he always does. Maddie had a huge "You are the epitome of rudeness! Mind your manners" snark at him. That backed off the Dobe, who then trotted over to Jack, who was having a nice little on-leash pee on a high bit of grass.

Rude Dobie boy tried to have a sniff at Jack while he was peeing, then proceeded to lift his leg and sprinkle on Jack. Bless him, my boy just kept peeing and did the dog equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears and saying "La-la-laaaa, I don't seeee youuuu".

*sigh* So guess who needed a bath when he got home?

Someday, there will be a big ol' dogfight (not with mine), and Dobe's owner will undoubtedly be angry at the dog who "attacks" hers, totally (in her mind) unprovoked. He's 7 months old now and they have absolutely no control of him. Nothing like owning a protection dog and letting him roam around being obnoxious whilst muttering under your breath that he never listens any more since the testosterone kicked in. And whose fault is all that, now?

What a shame. The dog deserves better.

Anyone with a dog like a doberman that lets it off leash with out keeping an eye on them is being irresponsible! I do not blame you for being upset. My experience is that they are socially clueless but also a very large dog capable of getting into a lot of trouble. Good thing Jack is pretty easy going!

Maddie has gotten her head sprinkled on whilst sticking her nose under Jack in mid-pee. This Dobie, though, was trying to sniff Jack's nether regions while Jack was peeing, which was a bit weird. And then he seemed to get frustrated and intentionally (so it seemed) peed right in the middle of Jack's back. I don't believe it was a case of bad aim!

Yes, the Dobe is just socially clueless. He does not seem at all aggressive. He is friendly and curious, but he has no sense of personal space and will just stride right into someone's (person or dog) with none of the social niceties. Nothing he is doing is really unusual for his age; he's still half-puppy but the hormones are kicking in so he's starting to pick up some adult behaviors too. It's the age at which most adult dogs find them rude, just like we tend to think of human teenagers as a bit rude.

However, the owner is asking for trouble because he's a big, athletic, powerful boy and one day he'll be rude to the wrong dog and there could be trouble. I also hate to see a dog loose with a metal choke chain, because if he gets caught in something and starts to choke, you'll need wire cutters to get him free. She allows him to play with other dogs off-leash with the metal choke on.

Plus, Maddie can be a bit snarky with other dogs on-leash, especially big dogs, so I try to keep leashed encounters controlled and it's tough to do so with a huge clueless dog barging right up to you!

Like I said, he has the makings of a positively lovely dog. I just think the owner is in a bit over her head and is not setting any boundaries for him at all. They were picnicking while the whole encounter was taking place and didn't even see what their dog was doing.

We had an obedience instructor years ago that was a highly successful trainer. She had a dobe that actually got up and peed on another dog during the long stay with the handlers absent. She did not consider it a "highlight" of her career! She often used him in class and he was really nice just like our Misty is. I think they may be very clueless dogs.

I figure if a dog sticks her nose in the way then...it's not the owners fault. The few Dobermans I have known were wonderful dogs!

Our dobe is that clueless. We discovered in obedience classes that she does not take hints well. The instructor called her "a dumb blond". It is a breed that needs training and an experienced owner. Poor Jack, at least he did not take offense. Actually Izzy has been peed on several times but it because she has to stick her nose under Sparty while he is peeing so she can check out the fabulous smell he is peeing on. I remind my husband of that whenever he kisses her sweet little nose!

My husband and I just can believe that. When people don't take responsibility for their dogs, they usually blame the dog. What's the point of having it on a choke collar and no leash, duh just keep him on a leash with a regular collar. That poor dog will end up biting someone and of course it will be "his fault". Stupid people...
Hope Jack was good for his bath.

Dog behavioral issues due to lack of guidance from the owner make me SO angry! Its the same as never disciplining your child. Poor dog, I probably would have marched up to the owner and reprimanded them. You need to send over Victoria Stilwell to tell the owner how stupid they're being, haha

I hope Jack smells fresh and pee-free now! I'm glad he decided to be the better man in the situation and let it go.

I probably would have asked the doberman if his owner now wanted to come home with Jack and give him a bath! Poor Dobi, and then we wonder why dogs end up in shelters! Poor Jack...I don't know if he likes baths...but when it's some dogs other fault ...that's a bummer. What is his owner going to do when reaches adulthood????
