We currently feed Buddy the Adult Chicken VeRus food. Our local mom/pop pet store only carries the 40lb bags, which is entirely too much for our single dog, so we usually have them special order a 20lb bag for us. Well, the issue is that I forgot to call and have them order another bag earlier in the week, and now I called today and they won't have a bag in until next week. We have about two meals worth of food left, and I am not really sure what to feed him in the mean time that won't upset his tummy too much.
Is there a suitable alternative that we can give him in the mean time that won't require us to invest in a new brand of food and change his diet completely? Most bags of dog food are rather large, and Buddy only eats 1 1/2 cups a day so we don't need that much.
I know that changing a dog's diet can be a little hard on their tummies if you are not carefull, so I just want to be a good mommy (despite my forgetfullness) and make sure I do as little damage as possible.
I am trying not to beat myself up too much about it, but I will feel better when I have a plan!
**Update**
So I just called the pet store to see when our food would be ready for pick up and they informed me that the food won't arrive until Thursday! We were under the impression, based on a statement made by an employee during a previous visit, that the special food order is delivered next day.
I can cook more chicken, that is not the problem. I am just worried about having Buddy on this special diet for a longer period of time. He seems to love the chicken/rice meal, and we have been mixing in a small amount of yogurt too. His poos were a little mooshy on Saturday, but now they seem to be ok, just a little on the softer side.
Is it ok to keep him on this chicken/rice diet for a few more days, or should I look into a different solution?
