I read about this ball that was recommended for herding breeds. It made sounds when bouncing or rolling causing the herding instinct to kick in and have them chase it and corner it. Me being the curious mommy I am decided to take a look at it for Caesar. Since he needed to go to the vet for booster shots I went to talk to a salesperson about it. He did not hear about the ball being great for herding dogs but I decided to give it a try. No, the ball is not good... it's pretty freaking sweeeeet!!!!! Yes, notice my excitement. Caesar loves it and I am sure the neighboors hate it. As soon as I bounced the ball it blinked and make some weird sound. I threw and Caesar started doing his very famous herding bark. The more he chased it the more it hit a wall or something that would make it sound off. Caesar could not get enough of it, he cornered the ball a couple of times and get all pissy when the ball would light up once cornered. Then I would pick it up, throw it against a wall so it would light up and the dog would go nuts! So he's jump at it, bark at it, nip at it, and take it to the next corner. By the time he was done with it, his tongue was hanging out, he took a bit of water and passed out.

The only down side is that the ball is a bit too small. Though big enough that I know he can't swallow it, it easily gets under the furniture, causing a very hysterical Caesar to whine and bark until I could get it out. Other than that my (and Caesar's) favorite toy.

Kiwi has this exact ball, and my husband and call it "red ball." Whenever we say to go get it she goes and stands by it and waits for us to bounce it for her. We normally bounce it on the floor back and forth and let her chase it, and then we bounce it onto the couch so that she has to jump on the couch to get it, it really wears her out, and she's obsessed with the "red ball" game. They have them at petco for a very cheap price, ours has lost it's sound and only lights up at random times, but she still loves it.

Maybe I should look at that one... this one is small and keeps rolling under the couch. Caesar can't reach it so he pitches a real fit as I am reaching for it... lol... he's such a spoiled brat!!

The ball I got I wouldn't throw but is pretty big. I got it at Walgreens. Actually my husband came home w/it for the dogs. And he says he doesn't love them. LOL

Kelly, it's a hard ball so I wouldn't bounce on hardwood floor... should be ok to roll though.

I totally agree... like I said the only toy I trust Caesar to be alone with are his Kongs... everything else goes in a box out of his reach when I leave the house :). I'm a little paranoid about it too.

Is it a soft ball? Meaning..is it safe to bounce on hardwoods?

I have one of those balls that is hard plastic and blinks a red light in it..I wouldn't throw this one though. They do like to chase the blinking light and the pups love it. Catches their attention. I don't leave anything w/mine no matter what. I just would rather be over cautious then to have hind sight and wish I hadn't left it w/them. I just hear so many out of the realm stories. I think its made me a nervous nelly.

That kind of sounds like Izzie's reaction when I gave her a small milk jug with a few pennies in it. Infinitely cheaper, but her fun did wear off when she was no longer scared of it and she ripped the top off and started to shake the pennies out. :-p I have to go pick some food up this weekend so I'll take a look for it! :)

It's called Zap Ball. Flash 'n Sound Dog Toy. I got it at PetSmart. Sondra, as for being 'Corgi' proof I would only let your corgi play with it when you are around - plus it is a blast to play with him throwing that ball around. The material seems to be hard enough that they wouldn't chew it open but Corgi's and their little teeth can be very surprising!!

The only toys I trust to leave my Corgi alone with are Kongs. Everything else I have a feeling he car tear to pieces.

Do you think its 'Corgi' proof?
