I love my dogs. Like many Corgis, neither of mine are lovers. They don't care for snuggling, they give me only one or two opportunities a day to love on them. And forget hugs, they act like twelve year olds when their mom kisses them in front of school! But, they get it honestly...I'm not a big softie either. I tend to play rather than cuddle and joke rather than sweet talk.
As many of you know, I teach 7th graders and this time of year can be particularly challenging. Yesterday was one of THOSE days. I came home cranky, but forced myself to take the dogs to the dog park to play. We came home, everyone had a bone to chew and I was ready for bed at about 8:30, in a hurry to put the day to rest. As I laid down in bed with my furbabies, Bear walked up beside me and laid down, his face about four inches from mine, looking into my eyes.
I reached up and rubbed his velvety ears and he just laid there, staring at me with what seemed like so much love in his sweet eyes. It was so comforting. After a few minutes, he kind of rolled over and before I could even begin to wander off to sleep - up walked Goldy, plopping down in nearly the exact position Bear had just been in.
These animals steal your heart when you least expect it - and give you back the love you lavish on them two-fold.
Thank God for Corgis. I think those big ears are there to hold up their huge halos.
