The photos with the red background are the first pictures we received of 'Olga' on December 1, 2010. She was 41 pounds when she arrived at the Animal Friends Humane Society in Hamilton, OH. My husband and I were going through the most crazy time-married in October, 2010-signed our names to the goodwill documents on our dream house on December 1, 2010 and on the same day, received an e-mail about a lead on a dog. I'm not sure what we were thinking, but we took a leap of faith and said yes to the dog, chubby butt and all.
This dog was a sign-we then found out the sellers of the house weren't going to work with us after the inspection and our hearts were broken. We had been in contact with 'Olga's' foster, Joan, through the Ohio Valley Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue and decided to keep chugging along. This dog would have to get used to going up three flights of stairs in our apartment until we got a house, but we would make it work somehow. The day we went to pick up the newly-to be named LeeLoo, as we waited in the car to meet Joan and LeeLoo, our realtor called and said the deal was back on for the house and that it was ours.
Since December, we've moved into our new house. Loo's dog door was the first project to be completed. She now has her own patio, couch, 2 dog beds, treats and lots of love. We took the advice of the rescue and enrolled her in obedience class. She graduated with the * of 'repeat again for social interaction'. Our girl is not-so-nice around other dogs. We don't know if this was developed when she was a stray or if it's just her part of staying corgi.
The most important factor is that she's lost 7-8 pounds and is looking great. The photos of her on the tile floor are of her now. She's jumping-running more-being able to lick/scratch unlickable/scratchable places now. She can sit like a lady (not rolled over to one side). She poops out fast on walks (nearly made it a mile last week) but we know she's trying and that's all we could ask for.
In closing, if you're new to the breed (she is my first corgi, though I have been IN LOVE with them for nearly 10 years) don't hesitate in rescuing/adopting one. She is estimated to be 4 and she's the perfect fit for us. I'm sure there will be an update at 1 year, but so far, the first 6 months have been more than we could ask for.
