We were alerted by the vet at our first visit with LeeLoo that she wears her front nails down much lower than her back.  We basically have never cut her front-most nails on her feet while we have to cut her rear ones every few weeks.  This past weekend, she began bleeding through a cracked nail on one of the short nails.  Has anyone else encountered this?  She has worn this poor nail down to the quick.

We notice when she runs, she does apply a lot of pressure when her feet come down in the front.  Her back legs just kinda fall into place.  We purchased temporary dog booties and they seemed to help when walking on concrete.  Tomorrow, we will attempt to bandage up the sore toe in hopes that it can get some 'time off' and grow.

I was just wondering if this was a common problem with corgis.  I would very much appreciate any insight.

So far the nails are working great. Thanks again for the recommendation!

Thank you for all the suggestions.  I would think the fake nails would work unless she tries to eat them!

mine drags his middle 2 toes on the front. I just rotate where we walk between paved & unpaved. This summer I might try some thin booties. or covers for nails like they have for cats?

You could try putting nail covers on and see if that helps. I haven't tried it myself but I would think they would provide some protection at least. I haven't heard of this being a problem with just corgis either.

im sorry that your fur baby is going through this. i had a friend who had a basset hound mix whos nails were always so short so they were always bleeding. they had to walk him on the grass all the time and he also had to wear booties

Sorry I don't have any suggestions but I'm sure someone here can help.

We walk daily on a concrete trail.  Our yard and house has no concrete.  I just don't want her bleeding and hurting.

I can't say it is a problem with my corgis...but when they are getting plenty of exercise they wear them down...which I think is a good thing but we don't have concrete.
