The Loose Tooth (not the first, and not the last, but still EPIC)

Pooka has lost all her front teeth and is now working on her molars. I have only managed to find ONE baby tooth as it was sitting on the couch and she was licking at it preparing to eat it. So I have a small molar on my mantle.

Today we were playing frisbee and suddenly she started, what looked like gagging, just reeaaally trying to get something out of her mouth. I went over and stuck my finger all around in there feeling for a problem until I noticed the blood along her top gumline, and "Oh, that tooth is wiggly."

She proceeded to place the top of her head on the ground and use her paw to scratch at the tooth (which was on the top jaw, maxilla). It was quite comical except for the whining and the blood getting all over her paw. Blood always looks serious and makes you fret even if you know exactly where its coming from! So she just kept chewing at it and pawing at it and I pushed on it a bit (though she'd continue biting at it, despite my fingers being in the way). I called my husband to see if he'd be coming home soon but he wasn't =( "Just yank it out!" I triiiiiied!!

After pushing on it some more, she seemed to be getting better and we just went inside and was treated to about 8 pieces of ice (as well as a starburst, which I tried to push onto the tooth so it would yank it out [IT WORKED FOR MY SISTER'S TOOTH] but instead she just ate it whole) before I had to go to school. I could hear her whining and howling all the way to the car as she was quite unhappy I was leaving. I spent all class period looking for a good way to get out a loose tooth (knowing it would likely come out on its own, but still) You know, like wrap it in floss and yank... human tricks. Nothing. Just people asking if puppies are supposed to lose (spelling it "loose") their teeth... seriously.

I called my husband before I came home and he said she was being extra clingy and I asked if he had checked the tooth. He forgot. Of course. By the time I got home he pronounced triumphantly the tooth was out. He let her chew on a stick to rock it back and forth, and by that point it was sitting sideways in her mouth, and he was able to pull/wedge it back and forth twice hard and it popped out. He claims to have seen it in her mouth a few moments before it was gone down her throat. [sigh] no trophy molar. Just a new gummy spot in her pretty mouth.

We have three of Finnigan's teeth, a molar, an incisor and a little front tooth. When we found the first one is when we first realized he was losing his baby teeth. We were at puppy class and he was getting rowdy and bit at my arm and when he moved his mouth away there was blood smeared all over my arm. I though, there's no way he bit me hard enough for that to be my blood. I looked in his mouth and there was blood all along his gums in the front. I took him to get a drink of water and when we came back I notice his tiny little tooth lying on the ground. I think he's about finished losing them now. I'm glad we found an incisor though, that's the one we really wanted. :)

haha, I lol'd at the starburst part! Good story :) I only found one of Gibson's baby teeth and it was when he was playing with it on our hardwoods so I could hear it jingling around! It is so weird to think that they eat their teeth isn't it??
