I decided last week that it was time to get Scarlet spayed when another dog in the park took a "liking" to her. I recently moved to this area so I figured finding a vet might be a lengthy process. I don't want to take my little baby to just ANYONE you know, so I called every one of them in the phone book.
A MATCH!
The woman on the phone sounded sincere and friendly, so this was the vet for us. I set up the first appointment and my boyfriend and I headed there yesterday. I only thought it would be an initial visit so I wasn't too worried. We got into the examination room and the vet did a once over. Scarlet had a perfect coat, she had the best teeth he'd ever seen, and even better: she was the perfect weight! I was so excited that our day was almost over, but the vet asked me this, "So, wanna come back so we can put her in the kennel for tomorrow?"
He was under the impression that we wanted Scarlet fixed (which I totally wanted!) and that we were going to leave her there that night. OH MAN! I didn't even give it a though....who was going to sleep on my pillow at night? Who was going to gobble down her dinner before we headed out for a nice long walk? Who was going to learn new trick tonight and give me those adorable eyes to beg for my food?
I brought her to the back to a kennel, and kissed her goodnight and bid her good luck for tomorrows surgery. I actually cried a little bit on the way out. I heard her crying and whimpering as I left to go to the car, and I felt so horrible for having to leave her there. I really hope she didn't think I was leaving her forever.....I can't wait to see her!
This afternoon the vet called me and told me the procedure was fantastic! HOORAY! Scarlet's perfectly OK! (and they did a little extra surgery because Scarlet was born with a weird extra toe...so they removed that for us too.)
My boyfriend is heading over there around 4 tonight to pick her up, and I'm glad she'll be back to her comfortable apartment with her mommy and daddy.
She's my first puppy, can't ya tell? :-D
