I agree. He should be checked for a UTI. I would not neuter any earlier than 6 months and you definitely DON'T want to put him through surgery if he has an infection.
A couple of things:
1. Do check for a URI. They can get them and it will lead to incontinence and inappropriate elimination.
2. At this age, dogs can go through a "growth spurt." In my experience, when that happens, they can have accidents. I don't know why, but it seems to happen often. After a week or so of going back to the basics they usually train right up again.
But, the first step is to check for a URI.
When working on potty training, be sure you take him out on a leash. Carry a couple of treats. When he goes, treat him right after he finishes. THEN, if you have a fenced in area and want him to play, let him off leash. When finished playing, leash and potty him again. That ensures he actually goes while outside and isn't just playing and forgetting to eliminate. Also, it makes him "earn" his off-lease time!
Yes. I would have him checked. Also, he is still learning and maybe having a relapse in his potty training. After having the vet check, just go back to going out with him and praising an outdoor potty and in the house make sure he has no freedom when you are unable to watch him. Puppies are rarely very reliable until they are at least one year. Once he has done it wrong there is a high likely hood that he will do it again. Remain patient, he will get it.
I agree with Jane...bladder infection.
It sounds like he might have a bladder infection to me. Usually peeing right in front of you is a pretty tell-tale sign. Marking is usually specifically peeing ON something, not just making a puddle on the floor.
