Why do some people think that Corgis are mixed with other breeds?

So we went to Petsmart this afternoon to get some cat food and dog treats, and we took Tegan with us. They were having adoptions today and I overheard some of the people working it talking about my Tegan and saying she was definitely a Sheltie/ Corgi mix! I just stood their thinking to myself " How could you think my baby is anything other than a Corgi? She is the epitome of a Corgi!" This also happened to my male, Beauregard, when he was a puppy. That time the person was so sure he was a Jack Russell mix and I had to explain to her that "No he isn't a Jack Russell. He is a purebred Corgi." I personally was a little offended, but that's just me... Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Beauregard is a total Corgi!

Tegan is still growing into her corginess, but is still definitely a Corgi!

Yes yours look all corgi. Where I live Corgis are not a popular breed so occasionally this happens but not too often! Since their not as popular as some breeds I think that people make assumptions...not that this is good but out of ignorance of the breed!

I had someone ask me once if Jack was a Corgi-mix because the Corgis they see are usually the "short-coated variety." Grrrr. Jack has a perfectly lovely hard Corgi coat. Granted the hair on his ruff is quite long, but well within standard.

Except for being a little big, Jack is pure Corgi in his look. His sire has his ROMX, his dam's side is littered with Champions and his littermate sister won a specialty and finished her championship by the time she turned 2.

I see a lot of Corgis with fairly short, smooth coats that are a bit small and have a distinctly terrier look about them. I think people are used to seeing that type and when they see the more classic/show type the longer coat and stockier body throws them for some reason.
