Why Raw bones are good for dogs!

I'm a firm believer that raw bones are great for bones... i'd like to list out whats so great for them..

1) They love the taste (well.. most dogs anyway)
2) Keeps them entertained for hours (great if you're away at work and things like that - i know some ppl will say that you should always supervise - but these bones are as big as her head so i doubt she'll try and eat it whole)
3) They last for a couple of days
4) They're an inexpensive alternative to other dog treats (which can be full of salt and other nasties)
5) they keep her teeth clean! =))

I give Hachi raw beef bones (my mum helps me get them from the super market/butcher and she buys the spine bit which she then separates into each section)

NIce pearly whites =)) Was hard to get this photo especially since she had her bone with her.. hahah

Comment by chocky on July 22, 2009 at 8:55am: Yeh the only problem i have with giving hachi bones is that she always like to bring them inside and sit on the carpet! and chew away... gets smelley sometimes lol.. or if they're left outside we get crows trying to steal them lol

They look kind of weird/creepy (they are cow tracheas I think??), but I've seen a lot of super-positive things about them. I might order some since bones aren't as easy to come by around here.

I too am a little squeamish about handling the raw bones, so I put them into the freezer and then pull them out for a special treat when they are all hot from running around in the yard! They love it and I can actually get some gardening done!!!

Comment by Beth on July 21, 2009 at 7:03am: I give Jack the sterilized beef leg bones with a bit of marrow still in them (not the stuffed ones). He usually loves them, but the last one I got him he ignored for some reason. With raw I'm concerned about mess and germs (for me, not the dog). I know they say the raw ones are less likely to splinter, but handling raw meat and stuff makes me squeamish even when I'm cooking.

Comment by David on July 21, 2009 at 5:43am: Indeed, raw bone is Yoda's favorite treat as well. I usually get him cattle or pig's leg bone. He can hold it and chomp away for hours.
