I think generally hard food is recommended. Soft food can be bad for their teeth long term and isn't as nutritious.

Dry food is higher quality and MUCH less expensive, proportionately, than what canned food costs.

Hard food BUT I have 2 that don't drink enough water so I add warm water to their dry food.

If pups are teething I also soften it with warm water as their gums may be sore and they can't chew it well.
