Chewie's ears have always been soft.  After a long day of play fighting with Yoda. His left ear started to flop down on Sunday!  I suspect he played too hard and slightly injured his ear, however, there is no swelling.  He is not in pain or anything like that.  I taped his ear up to act as brace/cast and wait for him to heal.  I am also getting him some calcium supplement for him to build up the cartilage in his ear.

Is there anything else I can do to make sure his ear will go back up?

my little chihuahua's ears get floppy when she is tired. Its the cutest thing. Her ears stick up pretty much all the time but when she has been playing a lot or when she just wakes up from a nap her ears flop...I've asked the vet about it and nobody has a clue as to why they do that. Its a good indicator of when she needs a break from play though haha

From what I've been told you should use Vitamin C instead of calcium to help with the ears since they are cartilage, not bone. I think too much excess calcium could cause bone spurs as well?

I would definitely keep an eye on his ear and make sure it's not getting puffy, which could indicate a hematoma or other injury.

David,

I think Glucosamine Chondroitin is supposed to help build cartilage.

Aww!  Sure hope his ear has a full "recovery!"  Sounds like you are doing what is necessary but, if it isn't much better in a few days (or less) I'd take him to a vet.  He's such a beautiful dog!

He might have injured it from the inside out like maybe a pulled muscle? I would suggest keeping his ear protected and if it doesn't go back up within a few days, I'd take him in to have it looked at just to be safe. It's like when they're puppies. . .their ear muscles have to develop for their ears to stand up.
