My 10 week pem came home from the breeder with ears taped, and after a few days, i removed the tape and now there is sticky residue on his fur.  Any suggestions on how to safely remove this stuff?

Try some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball. Keep it out of his eyes. The sticky stuff will eventually go away. It will look nasty for a while since it will accumulate dirt. I wouldn't put much on his ears. His skin could be sensitive and get sore. Don't rub and rub either. You can make his skin sore and get him to dislike having his ears handled. Just some gentle wipes, quit, and come back to it later.
Actually WD-40 works well. Spray some on a cotton ball or gauze and rub it on. Should come off pretty easily.
I'd be careful since WD-40 is a petroleum product. Don't let him or another animal lick his ears. I know he can't lick his own ears but you get the point!! Wash them off after you use the WD-40 on them.
Sorry your right about the WD-40. I should have been more specific. Make sure you clean it off well!

I have absolutely no experience with this, so bear this in mind, but could peanut butter work?  I have long hair and had gum and other sticky substances end up in it when I was little.  My mother always used to use peanut butter to get the sticky stuff out. Just put a tiny little dab on and gently rub.

It might be hard keeping him still since he'll want to eat it, but it couldn't hurt to try.  You could maybe distract him with a treat to get him to stay somewhat still.  At least it'll wash out really easily, and if it doesn't work then at least he can have a little lick.  ;)

If this doesn't work, at least he'll be the most popular puppy around.

Vegetable oil.

Warm water and soap? or puppy shampoo? something not too harmful would work since it's only some adhesive?

Mineral oil?
