I read somewhere that the dog in the movie is a corgi. It looks sort of like a corgi...but is it? Does anyone know for sure?

It's supposed to be a corgi.  In the book it's based on, the corgi is supposed to have no white so that it looks mostly like a fox until you see it has no tail and has weird behavior.  That is why the dog looks so odd on the movie cover.  Also, as an aside, if you want to see that movie they have it on netflix.  You just have to wait for them to send you the disc.

Thank you for the info. I think I'll definitely be getting this on Netflix. Anything with a corgi has to be worth seeing. =)

I couldn't find this on Netflix but I want to see it too. I found Poco, Little Dog Lost in the Canine Collection but it isn't the same movie. When you mentioned the book, I dug through some old books from when I was a kid and found this one. I don't remember the dog in the story but I had a vague recollection of the fox. I guess I didn't read it much as a kid but it is a cute story and now I will always treasure it! Let me know if you find the movie.

Hi Kara,

So far I've only been able to find it on Amazon. It sounds like a cute story though, I'll have to try and find the book. :o)

The book is definitely a corgi, i didnt know they made it into  a movie. I read that book as a kid thats why i now own a corgi the illustrations in the book are adorable!

Hi Lisa,

I'll definitely have to find a copy of the book. The story sounds cute, and I'd like to see the illustrations. The illustrations sound great!

Yes, yes, yes! It's a corgi...and the DVD's been on my Wish List for years. I saw the movie when I was little...the seed was planted without my knowing it.

It's an unusual color for a corgi, so I wasn't sure.  I'm so glad to know that it really is a corgi! :o)

Yup, all the dogs were bonafide AKC registered Pembroke Welsh Corgis, owned and trained by the Bundocks. The Bundock Corgis were and still are very prominent in the Corgi world. Here's a link to the information about theCorgis that appeared in the movie: http://mezzoo.ca/en/?page_id=22/

The Pembroke Corgi's appearance has changed through the decades. In my mind for the better!

Just as in Lassie, several Corgis were used in the movie as stand-ins. All Bundock Corgis, I believe.
