Just wondering if anyone can recommend a source to buy name tags for my corgis' collars that don't stain the white fur around their necks. Thanks for any recommendations.

@John - Thanks so much. I went to the site you posted and clicked a link to http://www.luckypet.com/products.php?cat=306, which offers a collar with the riveted name tag already affixed and inscribed. I didn't get to the price yet, but whatever it is, I say "worth it!" The instructions for a do-it-yourself tag left me weak in the knees! I'll give you an update once I get them. First I have to choose colors, haha! Sadly, hot pink for Lucy is out. According to their (clearly honest) website, it's not recommended for dogs with white collars as the color bleeds. Hot pink is Lucy's best color. J/K.
Hey, thank you everyone for your advice. I am going to go with John Wolff's recommendation of a dog tag riveted to the collar: http://www.luckypet.com/products.php?cat=306 (all-in-one collar, tag & engraved by lucky pet). Lucky me! LOL, I was never any good at riveting. Then I will apply clear nail polish (a la Sam).
good stainless steel should not require a coating, and lacquer is not gonna last long anyway.
I really like the Boomerang tags.  http://www.boomerangtags.com/  Lots of selection, made to order.  I get the thick plastic type ones and I haven't had a fur staining problem since using them.  They're very nice quality.  They also have ones that fit onto the collar, but I haven't tried those.
@ Ellen - Thank you so much. I felt frivolous asking this question, but I've gotten such great responses from mycorgi members. It only reinforces the many reasons for my love of this website.

Hehe, I realize you already have your answer, but wanted to throw in my  2 cents. We have tags from the city, CGC, Home Again and his ID tag, so we bought a Quiet Spot tag holder. It's a pouch to hold the tags, and it also keeps them from clanking together and getting worn down.

I use the "collar tags" from boomerang tags. They clip on the collar so no jingling.

We had the same problem with a Pet Smart tag.  We tried the nail polish and it still wore through.  We have moved on to a stainless steel tag (also from Pet Smart) and have had no problems!
Hi Stephanie, how long did it take to wear out the layer of nail polish? Did you apply / reapply several coats?
We applied a ton!  It kept chipping off or got rubbed off.  The metal had a pewter look to it and we really enjoyed the tag, just not it making her white fluff so dull.

I'm allergic to nickel and have to coat any metal that touches my skin with clear nail polish (rivets in jeans, buttons, belt buckles, etc) and it really doesn't last that long, especially if there is constant friction/pressure on it. I'd say a week max. Never tried it on dog tags but I would imagine you'd have to reapply it fairly often for it to be really effective.

I have the same problem with my dogs' tags.

Very cute!  I thought they were Stainless Steel with an enamel design.

Both dogs have a white chest, but now with grey stains under their tags. :(

Since these tags stain the fur, does that mean they are not Stainless Steel?

I was thinking of switching to plastic to stop this problem.  I used to buy Boomerang tags with my German Shepherds and they had good quality tags.  I just thought the ones I bought were so cute and I hate to give them up.
