Fear of Cameras!
My Corgi, 2 year old Pembroke named Emma, is afraid of cameras. And not just cameras, but anything that can take pictures (cell phones)... and really it's not just when they're lying there, it's when you point them at her like when you're trying to take her picture, she will get up and run away with her head down and hide under something. This makes me very distraught because I am a photographer and I want to take loads of pictures of my baby being adorable. Does anyone have any advice or insight into my corgi's fear of photography?

Do you ever use a clicker? What I would do is start by just setting the camera/phone on an end table or something out of the way so she doesn't immediately run away. If she even so much as glances at the camera, click and treat. Repeat lots and lots of times. As she becomes more comfortable, slowly start moving the camera more out into the open, such as on the couch or the coffee table. Any interaction with the camera gets a click and treat. Eventually if she's doing well you can hold out for longer stares at the camera before the click/treat. The end result would hopefully be a dog that is happy to look at the camera because it means she might get a super yummy treat. It won't happen overnight though, be patient. :) You could probably do this without the clicker too, but I think it's really a great tool for capturing that exact behavior the second it happens.

I've run into this with Gromit. I think it was too many flash photos when he was a pup. Now he recognizes my cameras or the movement of raising the camera to my eye. Distractions and treats are your best bet. Also, a nice, fast lens that will let you shoot without flash might be helpful. You might have to retrain Emma that there won't be a bright light suddenly blinding her each time you aim the camera at her.

One of our old fosters also had this fear. Anything pointed in her direction and she would bolt (although she was very overweight so she would not go very fast) I have no clue where it came from but we couldnt break it while she was with us. We are going to visit her in a few weeks so I will check if her mommy has been able to!

Rosie doesn't like the noise the camera makes. We got one where we could mute the noise and she's much better. She is not a lover of odd noises of any kind like clicks, beeps, buzzes.

Patience. Gracie doesn't like a camera or anything electronic it seems. But if I just sit there long enough eventually she'll relax and might even look in my direction :) You've got to be quick on the shutter. And the promise of a treat wouldn't hurt!
