My baby was staying with a dog sitter while I left on vacation last Thursday...she got away from the sitter and was hit and killed by a school bus on Friday. I am so devastated - she was only two years old...I can't imagine life without her...

Sorry to hear of your loss Patricia

Corgi HUGS!! So sorry for your loss~
Dear fellow dog lover Patricia,  I am so very sorry.  I would advise you to look up a corgi rescue near you.  Two weeks ago we decided to put down our very old girl, Annie.  My husband was out of town.  Our adult son, husband and I all talked and we realized it would be cruel to try to keep her going for a few more days till he got home (she'd already spent 3 days in the hospital).  Those who have made this decision know what it is like.  But my point is this.  Through my tears I went on PetFinder.com and looked up Corgi. (We don't have very many rescue groups in New Mexico)  I found a Corgi mix called Angel!  I thought that Annie had sent him to me.  My husband thought I was nuts and said he needed time to morn.  I said, "Of course, but this dog needs our love now!"  I drove the hour and a half to the no-kill shelter to get him the next day.  A bath and a lot of brushing later he was happily asleep on our bed.  For the next few days instead of being sad when i got home from work I was excited.  Our other rescue dog Pogo is gradually getting used to the new pup.  We now say things like...Jeeves (our new name for him) eats like Annie or His tail looks just like Annies used to.  We share tears memories and lots of smiles with the new dog.  Because we rescue adult dogs we don't get as many years with each one, but they are great ones.  We have said good-bye to Minke, Felix and Annie in the last 17 years.  It never gets easier, but I am learning.  After Minke died we waited two years to get Annie.  But there was a hole for so long.  After Felix died I waited two weeks to get Pogo.  And now when Annie died I waited only one day.  My family has thanked me for pushing them to accept a new dog right away.  Do what it best but consider putting some of your sadness aside (not discounting it) and open your heart to a new dog.  They are ready and waiting.
Susan, your note is heartwarming to say the very least. It brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful way to get throught the grief of losing a beloved pet by caring for a new friend in need. Jeeves is a lucky dog. Warm hugs to you all.
