I have been in the hospital for three days now because of serious asthma attack and will probably be here 22 more days at least. My boyfriend has been going home to do all the puppy stuff every so often and now is mother is staying with clutch at our house to keep him calm.

I guess he has been acting stressed or like he thinks he is may be in trouble ( like that ever happens). I don't know if he wonders what has happens to me or not. I have always been home with him all day every day and think he may curious as to what's going on not seeing me in 3+ days.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to left him know everything is alright I would love to hear them.

Hey Brittani--if you are still in the hospital, will they let you out for some fresh air?  Maybe your family could bring the dog up, and you could meet him outside the hospital rather than have him come up to your room?  (Escorted in a wheelchair, of course).  We did that for my father-in-law when he was in the hospital for an extended period of time.  It was very beneficial for both the dogs and for my father-in-law.

I truly appreciate everyones suggestions ! I did talk to clutch on the phone but it scared him more than it helped. Thankfully my boyfriend has been piling up my dirty clothes and clutch has been sleeping on them. I am also being supplied with constant videos and new pictures so that is helping me.

Unfortunately it is really hard for me to get in and out of bed without getting winded and the cold weather outside isn't friendly toward my asthma. I am hoping to get out today but it doesn't look too promising.

This hospital doesn't seem to realize that that there is more than one state of wellbeing. A doctor came in yesterday and told me it would be best for me if I got rid of my dog. Needless to say he made the situation much worse by making me cry for a few hours. I will not be taking his suggestions.

Hope you are on the way home by now. Get another doc.

Thanks Steve! The evil dr. Just came back in to tell me to donate my dog to someone who can live with him. I will be getting myself a new dr!!!!!

Hey Brittani! I guess I should have checked your locale (I am in Florida). So, when I suggested a fresh air meeting, I am looking at nice green trees, lots of sunshine & although it's a tad cool today (especially to us natives), it's still nice at around 66 degrees.  I too would be distraught if told I had to get rid of my dogs for my health.  I couldn't do it.  I hope you are well soon!

I'm sorry to hear that you're stuck in the hospital.  The suggestion to let your pup come and visit is nice, but I doubt they would let him in the door since you're there as a result of your asthma attack. Sending clothes home was a great idea, though, and it's nice to hear that Clutch is sleeping in the laundry.  He's probably missing you, but you'll get to see him again soon.  :)

Did you live with any dogs or cats growing up?  If not, do you know for certain what caused your asthma attack?  I know it's something you don't want to hear, but if animal dander is a trigger for your asthma then you will have to give the situation some very serious consideration.  I'm lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) to have exercise-induced asthma.  I can be around any kind of animal without a problem, but if I try to run even 1/4 of a mile I feel like my lungs are trying to explode (and I get the oh-so-lovely smoker-like hacking cough.)  My brother, on the other hand, has asthma that is triggered by animal dander, among other things.  He had to go through 10+ years of allergy shots before he was well enough for my family to get a dog.  My brother could tell you that ending up in the hospital, in an oxygen tent, is no fun.

I hope you get well soon, and hopefully allergies had nothing to do with your attack.

Like you, Jen I too have exercise-induced asthma and a lovely cat allergy. Occasionally when I meet a new pooch and get kisses or our faces touch I will get itchy but it is rare and only happens on the first meeting. I have never had any trouble breathing in a clean dog filled house. I also have never had any sort of reaction to clutch and I rub my face all over him with no problem daily. I do hope that I don't have a problem when I return home.

I am worried that I may be allergic to my hedgehog because cleaning his cage has alway been a little difficult for me. I am going to pass on the cleaning responsibilities to my boyfriend for a while and see what happen. I love my little hog man and would hate to be without him but I do understand that there are just some things that can't be helped.

My sympathy goes out to your brother! I don't know how I would be able to live without a furry butt in my life! Oxygen tent = super sadness!

Well that's some good news, then!  It makes me wonder why the doctor told you that you would have to get rid of Clutch, though.  :/  Then again, hospital doctors always tend to rub me the wrong way since they don't know their patients like the general practitioners do.  I guess it's to be expected, though, since hospital doctors only know you for a short time.

I've never heard of a hedgehog allergy, but I guess there's a first time for everything, right?  Hopefully just decreasing your hedgehog cleaning duties will help.  The only allergy I have is an allergy to, as my old pediatrician put it, "some sort of tree."  He never wanted to get me tested because there are way too many types of trees to test for, so I just imagine all trees as waging war against my lungs.  Not that it bothers me much.  I'm just glad I can have dogs!  :)

I would like to think everyone for all the well wishes and kind words! The community here is quite supportive and I truly appreciate it.

I am finally home and got in a good (are rare) cuddle with my fur butt! He was so excited to see me when I got home that he even kissed my teeth!

I had my boyfriend take a video of me coming home, hopefully I can post it soon!

Thanks mycorgi people!

Glad you are at home again together- its not easy when you are allergic to animals- I have a bad reaction but as time goes on I react less & less...  Best wishes & hope you stay healthy...

Ewwww asthma. Had it growing up, no fun at all :(

One idea for if/when this happens again... Are there any doggy daycares in your area? Maybe giving your dog a "play date" will help him have some fun and relax while you're in the hospital :)

Don't hedgies bathe in a dust bath? That might be contributing to your problems. I know I'm not allergic to dogs, but I am to various other things that are in dust and stuff. If my dog has rolled in a lot of dirt I have to give him a bath because I get itchy and stuff. I think passing the hedgie bathing ritual on to the bf would be a good idea. That way you can see if that really contributes to your problem... Good luck! I am very glad to hear you are home and Clutch was so excited to see you!!! I can't wait to see the video!!!
