Well, the Twixter was doing well with his name.. But now he won't even look at me when I say it. (Well, when I have something of interest to him, but he can tell when I don't, somehow.. Even if I pretend to, he looks at me like, "Do you think I'm stupid?" and goes back to half dozing.)
I don't know if I should just give up with it and go back, or if I should keep trying? I don't really want to give up, but hubby isn't sticking with the new name, he keeps forgetting.
SIGH. Silly man.
Oh, also trying to rename him has brought to my attention.. He responds better to "Corgi" than he does to not only Twix.. But also Ziggy.
It's almost every time without fail that he responds to Corgi, and almost never with Twix and about half the time with Ziggy..
I feel like I should just be calling him Corgi almost LOL... Help?
What do you guys think I should do?:P

LOL.. I call Scout Corgi all the time! She responds to both equally. When I got her, her name was Scout and I liked it enough to keep it.. and it fits her.
Maybe try something that rhymes with Ziggy... Nothing is coming to mind but I hope you find something.
It's very funny to me that that is what he responds to.. I couldn't stop saying, "I can't believe I have a Corgi!" and other such things over and over and over the first week I had him--I didn't even consider that it would make an impact haha.
Well, Piggy rhymes with Ziggy, but that was my Pug, so that's out!:P
I don't want to try and change his name again, but I feel as though even if I did that it wouldn't make a difference, since hubsters hasn't been using "Twix"
I would just keep at it. My two respond to about a half dozen nicknames lol.
Haha, I'll try, but he doesn't really respond to Ziggy half the time xD And that's what he knows! It's like he refuses to have his name changed almost -.-
If it hasn't started to stick by Monday, I'm probably just going to have to call it a loss, because it makes me feel weird to call a name that he won't even look at me for xD
Ace goes by Superman, Sweet Baby Corgi, Puppy, Stumpy MacStump, and a variety of French "pet words" in our household - but in the end, for serious business, he goes by Ace. Get your husband on board with the program - explain to him that you are serious about the name change, and it needs to be consistent in order for it to work.
Look up videos on Youtube for teaching your dog his name. In the end, a name is just a series of sounds to them, we have to add the connotation to it ourselves.
He knows I am serious, but he just forgets because he doesn't really spend time paying attention to him, and when he does, Ziggy is just what he is used to haha.
I will look up the videos:P You're right that it is just a name, I just am a bit scrambled on how to go about getting him to understand I mean him, but the tutorials should help!
I love the Stumpy MacStump nickname! It's very cute! xD
Lol.. You know I never thought of it as them thinking that their names are call words until you flat out said it, I always thought that they thought of it as their name, which clearly isn't the case, since dogs don't think like humans, der! Makes me wanna do the "Coulda had a V8" smack on myself!
Noodles responds to a number of different names, but he knows he really needs to obey/listen when we say Noodles in a serious tone. The nicknames Noodles responds to: Noods, munchie munch, baby cakes, angel muffin, fatso (my husband's nick name and I always scold him for using it), tiger lilly and Noodlesboy. The poor thing has so many nick names and it all depends on what comes out of my mouth. Please do not ask me where I came up with some of these. Keep working at it is the only thing I can recommend.
Sigh. Ziggy doesn't think I have a serious side, I don't believe-and if he does, he just doesn't care. He knows I won't do anything other than ignore him for punishment, and he isn't exactly opposed to having quiet time:(
It makes me wonder if he is really just this lazy.. Or if he was brought up this way, and it's changable!
Fatso? xD So mean! Hubby always calls Twix fatty, but I always say, "He is NOT fat. Just too... Skin-y" You know.. Since he has all that extra dangling skin that makes him look bigger than he is.. xD I love puns.
Angel muffin sounds about right, he's sooooooooo cute!
Ahh, this make perfect sense, but Twix doesn't respond to ANYTHING! Even asking if he wants a treat in a super excited voice. He looks at me as if to say, "Duh." and then lays his head back down until I return with the treat, at which point he takes it and goes back to ignoring me -.-
Five months is soooooo long haha. I feel far too awkward calling him a name that he doesn't respond to when there is one that he does, so I think I will keep at it for another two weeks, and if he hasn't caught on by then, I think Ziggy isn't too bad of a name, even if it's not my favorite haha.
Have you been actively training him to this? or just using his name and hoping he'll figure it out?
If you haven't been working on it as a training activity, I do have some suggestions. (If you have, please ignore me.) The training school I've always used calls this the "Name Game," and starts most classes with it. Lilliput thought this was the "Mommy's a Treat Dispenser Game," but my rescue learned his new name in two to three weeks. And he's not all that bright :)
It's just a matter of walking around and occasionally saying the dog's name. If he looks, he gets a treat. The treat comes the microsecond he turns his head toward you. It doesn't even require full attention at first, just turning his head to you. It also teaches the dog to be attentive, since paying attention might get him an easy treat. I also used a clicker, just as an introduction to the idea that clicker=reward.
BTW, Lilliput also responds to "Corgi." I don't recall any other dog responding to "Beagle" or "Spaniel" or Hound." Just "Corgi." She also seems to respond to "She," I guess because she's the only girl in the house besides me, and I don't call myself that.
