In every way. They are blessings when they give us joy and love, AND they are blessings when our selfish selves are 'stretched' and we want to prefer our comfort to their needs......All I can say, God is good in His infinite wisdom.

Has God taught you any lessons about Himself through your corgi? Share with us, please.

Here's another reason to have a Corgi--to make us better parents. On Halloween, I let my two (7 and 8 year old) girls out, two blocks from home, at 3:30, to trick-or-treat their way back to our house. When I got home, Cookie (our 10 month old Corgi) would not get out of the car. Her big brown sad eyes said that something was wrong because the girls did not come home with us. Twenty (long) minutes later, the girls got home, and Cookie gladly got out of the van. This experience made me question the decision I had made, to let them walk home. I felt like God was teaching me a lesson!
hi im new to the group, as well as the site.

back in august, my basenji died at 17. she went so quickly...

after this happened, i knew i wanted a corgi. i had worked in dog grooming/kennel buisness back in high school, and corgis were my favourite out of all the different breeds. corgis are so rare, and not cheap; i honestly did not think i would find one.

i prayed about it, and started searching. i typed "corgi tampa bay area" into google and there was a couple looking to give Lola a new home. she was 30 miles away, full breed and AKC registered (parents were both champs). she was $250. very affordable for the college kid that i am!
she wasn't fixed, and because of her AKC status, most of the offers were for breeding purposes. the family did not want that for Lola, therefore making me the perfect candidate to take Lola home.
the 30 mile ride home, she sat in my lap the entire way.

i am amazed that God just basically handed her to me. Ask and ye shall receive!
God used Boo-boo to teach me about giving to others, with joy. He was the neighborhood welcome wagon, ready to greet/play with each of my neighbors every morning. One even mentioned how he made her day, with his wiggling welcome!

Oh, and dogs will be in heaven! Theologians such as Richard Alan Young, a professor at Temple Baptist Seminary, Rev. Andrew Linzey, and other Christians believe that our canine (and other animal friends) will be with us in the afterlife. On page 25 of the chapter "Does Garfield Have a Soul?" of Dr. Young's book, Is God a Vegetarian?, he writes, "The Bible teaches that (1) animals possess nephesh (Gen. 1:20, 21, 24, 30, 2:19, 9:4-5, 10, 12, 15; Lev 24:18; Job 12:10; Prov 12:10); animals possess psuche, the Greek counterpart to nephesh in the New Testament (Rev 8:9, 16:3), (3) animals have an affinity for God (Ps 148:7-10, 150:6); animals will be present in the eternal state (Isa 65:25; Rev 5:13-14); (5) humans are similar to animals in that they share the same breath or spirit (ruach) and the same destiny (Eccl 3:18-21); (6) animals await glorification as do the children of God (Rom 8:18-21); and (7) the redeeming purposes of God include the entire created realm, including animals (Eph 1:10; Col 1:20). David praises God saying, "You save humans and animals alike, O Lord" (Ps 36:6).

Radio talk show host Hank Hanegraaff said in 2002 that "the Bible does provide us with some significant clues that animals will inhabit the new heaven and the new earth. First, the Garden of Eden was populated by animals, thus there is a precedent for believing that Eden restored will also be populated by animals...Isaiah 11:6-9 provides a particularly stirring image."

Hope this eases your soul!
I, too, was VERY concerned with this, and with the thought of what would happen to my dogs when the rapture occurs (Pre-- Mid-- or Post Trib, whenever He knows is best). I have prayed very extensively about this and have put it in my Loving God's hands (working hard at leaving it there...) I was recently watching a Jack Van Impe program and they are offering a teaching that he has called "Animals in Heaven?" It is either in VHS or DVD form and costs $24.95. I have been thinking about getting it, because he is the first that has offered something like this that I had seen. I was very happy to read your post, and see that others had put together a lot of the scriptures to make their point. I had about reached the point of, how would I say it... "VAST hope," that this would be the case, knowing God's love for me and others that I know that love animals so deeply, and having read the Bible several times... I KNOW there are horses there, for Christ returns riding one and many others come with Him on them... YEAH!!! I love horses, too!
Oh, I forgot to mention, one of my Doxie/Chihuahua mixes names was Boo-boo, to. That's the kind of dog I've always had, so Corgis, when I found out about them were just perfect!!! The first time I saw one on a Disney movie called "Little Dog, Lost" I fell in love with the breed. They just released this movie on the Disney Movie website, so we've already ordered it.
I think one of things that I learned through Ginny was that God gives us what we need, not necessarily what we ask for.
As a dog, what she "wants" from me (people food, free reign of the house, chewing on furniture, etc) vs. what I give her is a lot like God and us. There are things that I don't give her that she wants, because I know they aren't in her best interest. She doesn't understand that very well, but she still trusts me. As a child of God, there are things I have prayed for and God hasn't said "yes" to every prayer, but I trust that in His wisdom, he is protecting me and leading me on to better things. Case in point: I interviewed for a promotion to a position at my job, that I didn't get. I couldn't understand WHY, because I felt more qualified for the position; but less than a year later, that position was elimated, while I still had my job. If I had gotten the position, I would have shortly been out of work, so I think there was a reason that I didn't get the promotion, I just didn't understand it at the time.
"I trust that in His wisdom, he is protecting me and leading me on to better things"......

So very true, Ginny.
I thank God everyday for my little four year old tri colored boy, Bubba and what company and joy he has brought into my life. I live alone without any family other than Bubba and he is my joy. It doesn't matter what happened at work or on the road coming home I know he'll be there to greet me all excited and running, jumping on and off the couch with that little nubby tail wagging. I forget all else when I see him and remember the great multitude of blessings the Lord has given me. I pray for this little fellows safety and peace while I'm away and at night thank God he's granted us both another day together.

Bubba has taught me about patience. Many times we get so caught up in the things of this world we forget that in an instance all could change-in just a blink of an eye. No matter how much turmoil may be going on inside he gives a reassuring eye that all will be fine-that we have each other, our home, my job, a car paid for, no lack of food and pretty good health.

He's taught me about love in that I would have never guessed in a million years I could love anymore but it didn't take long to realize just how much I love this little Corgi boy and what a great blessing he is everyday. There's so much to say that I've gained by this great and precious gift I've received from the Lord and he fits me like a glove. Those that have Corgis that are much like themselves know what I mean. I couldn't have ordered a better companion than Bubba if I had spelled out to a breeder just exactly what I wanted. I received it all without having to specify a thing. It sort of reminds me of King Saul's grandson, Mephibosheth who deserved nothing from the hand of David except to be exiled at best or killed and yet David in his lovingkindness for Jonathan's sake, gave him all he had and beckoned him to sit at his table forever. I stand amazed and awestruck at the goodness of God toward me and like the story of David and Mephibosheth, I am blessed to have received the many gracious blessings from the Lord my God for his tender mercies and abounding grace.

I know this is an old thread, but it seems to be the perfect place to post my story, or maybe I should call it a testimony. God always knows what we need and when we need it. I have often heard it said, "God has perfect timing--he is never too late, nor ever too early."

This past year has been one of upheavals for our family. I live on a rural farm with my husband and son and all our critters. Last spring, both of my parents became ill at the same time and were hospitalized. Eventually, my mother came to live with us and my father passed away. The previous fall we had to put our beloved Newfie down (God's timing was perfect then too--a month earlier he had sent a tiny little wild kitten to our hen house and his presence made our loss so much easier), and since that time our Boston Terrier seemed quite lost without his buddy. So we had begun a search for another dog, leaning toward a corgi. We wanted a dog with a big heart and attitude, but smaller in stature than the Newfie. Just after Mother came to live with us, we picked out Kadi and she was such a blessing to us. Right from the start, she sensed how fragile Mother was, and never nipped at her or jumped on her, even though she was a typical puppy with the rest of us.

Just under a month ago, I found myself missing the Dalmatian I had many years ago. He was the perfect companion dog, always at my side, ready to do anything I asked of him. He was one of those dogs we never really let go of, but always hold close in our hearts. The very next morning, while we were out doing chores, we turned to see a corgi standing there, watching us. He had a tail, but was definitely a Pem. No collar, no ID, not neutered, sweet as can be. (If you want the rest of the details, there are other posts on the board and my page). To make a long story short, we have fallen in love with him and his name is Brodie.

I now am beginning to understand why he showed up that day. God knew what was coming in my life and He knew I needed another companion dog like Sam had been to me. Kadi is all bundles of energy and love and excitement, and I adore her, but she is very much my son's puppy. Brodie has completely attached himself to me the way Sam did. He is my shadow in every way. Anyone who did not know the story would think he was mine from the time he was weaned, not just for a few weeks. I need that right now. This past weekend, we had to hospitalize my mother. She seems to be losing her mind. It is very hard to watch and the doctors can't find the reason. Brodie has been my sanity in these past days. He is the comfort that I need to get through whatever lays ahead.

I have no doubt Brodie needed us as much as we needed him, and I thank God that He led him to us at the precise moment necessary. Ten minutes earlier or later, and we would not have seen each other.

Thank you, Lord, for all your goodness!
