I have to say, over the last 9 months of having my first Corgi (Darcy's turning one year old soon), I've been THOROUGHLY entertained. Laying on her back, groaning, grunting, squealing, "talking," digging -- she seems to do something new and unusual every day! I've had Beagles and Shelties before, but they NEVER did half the quirky things Darcy does!
Well, here's one thing that just puzzles me. We'll be outside, and she sniffs the ground, seems to pick a VERY particular spot, then dives head-first into the ground, rolls over on her back, and rolls and rolls on top of this patch of ground. Gets up, sniffs it again, rolls again! So weird!!
I went over to see what she was rolling on top of, and all I could see was a dead black beetle! She went to that same exact spot a couple more times over the next week, and was rolling all over it. Such a silly dog!
I was just wondering if this is a "Corgi" thing?? And is there any rhyme or reason to it??

It's the dead beetle. Just like any other dog, they like to roll in dead things and since their nose is so much more sensitive than ours they can smell the decay that we can't.
In the last few days, we have had freakishly warm weather here in NH. On our walks Lucy has insisted on stopping from time to time. Then she begins to dig, dig, dig like crazy. Her front paws moving at an amazing speed as she throws dirt out behind her. She then drops as much of body as possible in the freshly dug hole and furiously rolls around in it until she is covered in soil. If I happen to be playing frisbee with her or ball, she'll take her toys and drop them in the hole. She loves to whine, growl, bark at her toys and poke at them with her nose. A constant source of amusement!
Love reading all these replies! So funny, that we've all seen our Corgis do this.
LOL - I finally caught Darcy "on tape," doing the rolling thing! She's never done it inside before, but this time, she found an itty bitty part of a bug (honestly, I couldn't tell WHAT it was - maybe the wing of an insect). She sniffed it, played with it, then did that goofy neck-roll thing right on top of it. I rushed to find my phone/camera to capture a bit of it. Silly, silly dog. She did this for about 20 minutes straight, lol.
