A few weeks ago, Ella had chewed a small dime size hole in our drywall by the front door.  If I have to go out, I've been leaving chew toys all over the house and she was doing good until today.  I came home after only being gone for an hour and a half, to find a large hole in the drywall again!  I don't know why she does this.  Is it boredom?  Before I leave, I take her for a walk, give her a bone with a little cheese in it and she has toys and her friend, Maverick.  I hate to crate her every time I go outside but it looks like I'm going to have to.  Anyone else have this problem with your corgi?  She has also chewed the corner molding.  I will try to post a couple pics.  Thanks for any advice!

She's still under a year old yes? IMO too much freedom too soon. She is not ready to be left unsupervised. I'd put her in a an xpen or her crate when you leave.

Yes, she is only 8 months old.  I bought her one of those doggie playpens but it took up so much room in our living room (her crate is also in the living room along with a bed and my shepherd's bed) that I packed it up and stored it.  I guess I thought she could be trusted but not yet it seems.  I hope she outgrows this bad behavior soon :/  Thank you for your reply!

CORGIS LOVE TO EAT!!!

I knew someone who's dog did the same thing.  The rubbed a little peppermint oil on the wall.  Worked for them.

You can also try those no bite spray for dogs.  I got it for Kabu cause he enjoyed chewing the carpet. He ended up loving the taste of it.

So in conclusion, just rub something that's safe for the corgi and wont damage the wall.... hope that helps.

Mine does this, same with my coonhuond. Only there's already a hole in the wall...and it's super easy access. If you have tabasco sauce, smear it on. You're house will smell funny and you'll probably need to wash and paint over but one sniff/lick of it and that'll stop 'em lol. Unless your corgi decides to like the taste... or you could try lemon.

Thanks guys...I'm going to give your ideas a try!

Winston started chewing/eating the baseboard moulding. We didn't notice for a while since it was beside his bed and basically hidden from view. I used Bitter Apple spray on the wall and then realized I had to move his bed, he didn't even want to lay near the stuff!

We've since moved to a new place and he hasn't chewed the walls or flooring here yet and I'm hoping it was just because he was being a moody teenager. Winston was just around 9 months old at the time it happened and now he's almost 2.

There is still hope for my Ella then!  Thanks.

Kadi chews up the linoleum off the floor in the basement. Don't ask me how she got it started, but she does. It's not a big deal to us because she doesn't eat it, and our Newfie did the same thing when he was a puppy, so the floor down there is already trashed. That's why their xpens are down there.

Thanks for your reply!  I wonder if your Newfie outgrew this?  I'm hoping Ella will.  Today was her first time back in the crate when I had to leave.  :(  I guess I shouldn't feel guilty about it.  She is just so darn spoiled!

Sort of. We found out it was separation anxiety from our Boston Terrier! So we solved it by putting them together in the same xpen. After that he was fine. Of course, there wasn't much of the flooring left at that point either! He was still a puppy at the time and he mellowed pretty fast. Kadi is mellowing now too, but I think she may always be a chewer. Her breeder says her mama loves to find paper back books and destroy them! Maybe you could use an xpen instead of a crate as a compromise to confine Ella when you're gone. Gives a little more freedom, but not the run of the house.

Oh my goodness..., yours looks just like mine only a bit worse.  I was hoping that Ella would grow out of this by the time she was a year old  but if Reed is still up to it...hmm...I'm not so sure.  I can't understand "why" the drywall?  I understand they have a need to chew....but drywall?  Yuck.  I ordered some bitter apple spray which should be here in a few days.  I wondered the same thing though.....do you have to spray every wall with the stuff?  As I'm typing this, I'm looking across the room at Ella gnawing on my tennis shoe!!  I've never had this issue with any other dogs.  Yeesh.   I'm glad to hear that Reed seems to be tapering off for you....I'll keep my fingers crossed too...for both of us!  Thanks for your reply :)  Although the subject isn't funny, your post made me laugh!

LOL....thanks!    We live on the lake and have a neighboring beaver...maybe he and Ella are in cahoots!  The little teeth marks look like beaver teeth marks.  haha  I guess it's good to find some humor in it.  I'll try to remember that as I'm sloshing on the drywall mud!
