Today I drove my son to school with Dipper on his lap. The weather was nice and we put the window down. Dipper did the classic dog looking out of a car window thing for the first time. He was very alert but didn't do any Corgi smile thing with the tongue.
My son was holding on to him so I wasn't worried about him jumping out. In fact I'm not sure he could due to the height issue.
Dipper is getting too big to sit on my son's lap. The day will come, I think, when he will be in the back seat.

I love to do this too...but just a warning...if the air bag goes off with your dog on your lap, it will certainly kill or seriously maim your dog, and injure you too seriously in the process.
Fatal head-on SR520 bridge in Seattle caused by a loose dog in the front seat.
Both dogs and children should be secured when in the car. Our corgi and scotty have harness that attached to the seat belts, and they are content to ride that way. You don't let you child ride without a seat belt, why would you not secure your dog. And dogs with their heads out the window are subject to get bugs, dirts, etc, in their eyes and ears -- and who needs more vet bills?
Oh dear. Well I'm going to look into the harness business. And he and son are growing so fast they can't both be in front seat anyhow. With local roads at 30 mph there's not much bug danger. GN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhN6P-cnP0w this is a 30mph crash. Imagine your 25lb corgi hitting something (maybe you?) at 30mph. F=MA (force = mass x acceleration)
