I've been feeding Dax the Nature's Recipe food and I really wanted to get him on something different. I've learned that nothing is perfect and there will always be people who have bad experiences with things that work wonderfully for others, so after reading bad things about everything and good things about the same products, I finally decided to buy a bag of Royal Canin. Now here's my question -- There were so many different kinds (even breed specific -- never heard of a breed specific dog food, but hey. There's a first time for everything), I'm pretty sure I got the wrong one. But I only realized it after I've given him some (thus the bag already being open and me being stuck with it). I bought the puppy formula for dogs up to 20 pounds, which at the time I interpreted "up to 20 pounds" to mean their weight NOW, not their ADULT weight, which I think is what it meant. Anyway, what I'm wondering is what really is the difference? And should I just go ahead and feed it to him anyway? I mean there really can't be that much of a difference, can there? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

We are switching our puppy over too. We had him on canidae but are moving to Evo. My sister had her dog, a maltese, on royal canin but recently switched to Evo as well. I think the puppy formula up to 20 lbs is their current weight but I could be wrong. As long as it is agreeing with his system, i would not see switching up his food again as long as he is doing well.
Hi Dax! I had Bailey on Nature's Recipe too…. For about 3 months, then we switched over to Wellness Puppy. Now hes's on Wellness Chicken. They sell it at Petco now, and I HIGHLY recommend it. There's human grade ingredients (very important since you don’t want them eating something that wouldn’t be cleared for a human to eat… with deboned chicken, fruits and veggies and omegas and no wheat, corn, or byproducts).

Anyways, I think the pounds they use refer to adult weight, not current weight - cause the current weight determines how MUCH you feed them, not WHAT you feed them - well except in the case of Large Breed dogs - they have their special slow growth formulas.. But in this case I really think it’s the adult weight, not current. But I do agree with Jennifer, if he likes it and is doing well on it - you could just keep him on it - I don't think itll have adverse effects.

Oh! And I think you can take it back as long as the bag (on the back) says satifaction guaranteed or your money back. =) I've never had problems taking food back anywhere really, all dog food (at least I think) should have that guarantee - since we cant taste test for our furballs.
