I don't know about other corgis in northern climates but Becca is having issues figuring out how best to poop in the snow. We had powdery snow Sunday and she had no problem. Since then is has become packy and developed a crust. She is particular about her potty spots on a good day. I tried making her paths in her favorite spots. She will still wander and circle for 10 minutes or more. We are due for more snow on Friday... How long before she adapts?

It's kinda funny really, but Lucy poops right into footprints in the crusty or packed snow. Her aim is quite good. I don't know what this is about exactly, but that's what she looks for (she sniffs it first, of course) as she circles about. This will be her second winter and she worked this out pretty quickly on her own last year. She likes snow piles the best (like the kind plows or shovels make). She still likes piles of leaves the best for her potty locations.

She'll probably have to get comfortable walking in the paths before she's comfortable doing anything else there. It's a little late now, but kicking a ball up and down the paths (soon to be tunnels) might help. All of my dogs have decided that it's OK to go on the deck if it's covered with snow, then go back to using only the grass in the spring. Go figure.

Murray does the same with my deck.  Anything's fair game if it's covered with snow.  Not so bad until it thaws and I have to clean up gooshy wet poops.

I think my DouBao has the same issue right now. This will be her second winter, but last year she was really young and it was a warm winter which we barely had really snow. Today we have rain and snow and it was very windy. She looked lost or carried away by all the new smells and movements around.

She was quite good on washroom schedule, but tonight we still haven't gotten the last poop yet (pee is fine). Guess I will be getting a big one tomorrow morning.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, even though I would really like to have the third poop of today. They will figure it out very soon as long as we act as normal as we used to be.
