Sammie Monday had the fishline surgery to her ACL and I have to say this recovery is scarey and I'm a bit panicked. Her other leg that she is using had a partial ACL tear about 5 months ago but she can use it. But it's so sad seeing her like this. It's going to be horrible having to get the other leg done and go through this again. Questions I have for people who have had the ACL surgeries done. Is it okay for her to lay on her incision? No matter what she lays on it and we can't force her to stay on her other side. Also along the lines of laying on it should I feel okay with leaving her caged with a cone on while I'm at work? Like I said the main problem is she lays on it. Any input would be great. I am currently doing ROM and icing it. We don't have therapy for dogs here in my small valley just a simple vet so I'm havin to do this the old fashion way.

Hi Elizabeth!!

I know this is scary...we've done it twice!

Yes, she can lay on the incision.  I just tried to keep a clean blanket in the kennel with her.  Just watch for signs of infection.  (Redness, swelling, drainage).   Definitely keep the cone on while you are gone!!  And all the time when you can't be right there watching her.  It only takes a split second for them to do damage by biting/licking the wound.  We bought a wire puppy pen at PetSmart, and kept her in there all the time--only out on a leather leash for walk time.  It gave her enough room to move around a little, but not enough that she could run/jump and do any damage.
