Australia being an Island we are lucky we don't have rabies and yes we treat our animals for fleas & ticks in certain suburbs of Sydney are bad tick areas! I give Oscar & Sam Frontline Plus and heartgard monthly plus worming tablets as required plus their relevent vaccinations every year!. We have never had a problem whatsoever having said that I do worry about my boys and check them daily for fleas and ticks and thankfully they don't have any whatsoever because grass fleas are bad!. I have never heard of Lyme? disease?? we have cat flu and you hear a lot these days of feline aids!. Scary as I used to breed Burmese cats sadly my last Lilac Burmese Sebastian died of old age last year I miss him so much funny enough so did Oscar they were the best of mates!. It is ironic though that we as pet owners can have animals that go thru life with no disease's and other animals that are prone to disease's this I can't figure out but we handle and deal whatever crops up with our animals and give them the best care and love with whatever happens to them if & when the get sick!. I pray everyday that my Boys stay healthy & happy and disease free everyday and live a long life!.
Good health to you & your families and most of all our Children(pets)
Regards
Oscar,Sam & Brian

Lyme is bad for both animals and human. It comes from the bite of a deer tick. Max had Lyme before we got him and was treated, he will always show a mild positive for it. Both dogs are vaccinated when required. Now they have found that cats also get heartworm and so far there is no treatment or preventive for them. My daughter's cat died from them. No one had any idea. Poor girl only had him a couple of months. Fleas are a real pain and they go in cycles. Besides them being a pain on the animals my husband is very allergic to their bites and I will know from him first if there are any fleas in the house.
