Dog food. Small dog or big dog?

I've been lurking on here for a while and read something about corgis, puppy or adult, needing to eat big dog, dog food and not small dog, dog food. My husband disagrees. I would love to know which of us is right. We have a poodle schnauzer mix and our corgi mix. Sasha(corgi) is, as of her vet visit Friday, 12.8# and 2 years old.
Also I noticed call of the wild doesn't have a small dog formula. Would it be ok for small dogs? Toby(schnoodle) is only 7# maybe 8 soaking wet. Can anyone post some links that talk about small vs big dog, dog food for corgis? Also, would it make a difference that Sasha is mixed and so small?

Here's a good summary of why there are different dog food types. I don't personally use Royal Canin, but they do a lot of specialty foods:

SOMETIMES the different "types" are just marketing and/or kibble size, so it's important to read labels. However, for the more reputable companies (Iam's, Science Diet, and some of the newer brands like Wellness) their different forumlas generally have varying protein/fat content and "small" and "large" really do mean something nutritionally.

My vet has no clue what she could be mixed with just that its most likely a toy breed. It's only noticeable in her face, size and the black splotches on her feet. We haven't had her long enough to notice any breed traits in her personality except corgi. Besides we go to Value Vet and I'm leery of any advice a vet there gives me outside of diagnosing and treating an illness and general health advice(when to get shots, dewormer, ect)
