Hope this doesn't continue...lost 2 cats due to rat poison which we NEVER use and the closest neighbor is about 3 miles away. This included my baby cat KK that found us...this also happened about 20 miles from here and we think someone is trying to poison coyotes and maybe something ate it and wandered onto the property and died. The one was an outside shed cat and until KK got sick and we took him to the vet we had NO idea.

Cougar sighting are rare around here BUT 2 nights ago he was 3 miles away and last night he was spotted 1 1/2 miles away. Our dogs go out in fences after dark but they're only 4' tall so that wouldn't stop a cougar:( Guess we'll be in the fences with them tonight and very short times!

Corgis are all fine but it's scary! They have been acting a bit crazier but I was thinking it's the cooler weather or at least hope that's why!

Sorry to read about the cats, it can be rough when other animals are out and wander to your place to die. I worry about my guy getting into connabur traps we set for coon and bobcats. But we are careful.
Cougars= terrifying! I moved to northern mn to my 60 acre property and between the wolves and the cougar I don't know who gets more pets and or livestock. Be careful Jane. I go out at night with a shotgun.

So sorry for your loss.  That must be so devastating.  Keep close eye on the corgis!

Thanks everyone...just seems so strange especially without my little KK. he would always be out and usually in the middle of the dog fence just hanging around!

No more cougar sightings so I hope he has moved on although he could easily live around here because we have hundreds of CREP acres full of wildlife. The drought could have kept him by the river and he was maybe just passing through.

Normally people's kids would take their bikes to meet the bus but not with a cougar around...parents were driving them to the end of their driveways...

Sorry to hear about your terrible week.  We have a big cat in our neighborhood but so far he has stayed away from homes and pets. Sometimes when the doors are open and the boys hear him growl they are out the door and barking before we can catch them.  The cat has never gotten near our fence but we get the boys in fast.  We bought a sonic devise called the Egg.  It is the only thing that will get the dogs attention fast when they hear the growl, it is like they go into a protection crazy mood. The cat also seems to leave the area when we push the Egg button.

Oh Jane....I am so sorry about your cats.  That's awful.  Keep your corgis close...the cougars are very fast...

I'm really sorry to hear this news.  Poison is no fun.  For anyone.  I hope the corgi crew stays safe and happy.  Wish I could offer more, besides much love and hugs.

I'm sorry to hear about your kitties.  Sounds like a terrible week.  Hope that cougar is just passing through and heads out so you don't have to worry about your pups.
