I used Science Diet all for my healthy Yorkshire Terriers life (the vet reported her health is as good as a dog half her age) I was curious to know if anyone has had similar positive responses with Corgis? Im asking because I know every breed is different. Would you suggest anything better? I'm adopting my first Corgi in about two weeks (see photo-aint he a cutie already? ;])

My vet swears by it for all of his dogs but he doesn't have a Corgi. I was going to swap to it once we were out of the puppy food stage as he told me to stick with what the breeder had started Madog on which was IAMS Puppy Smart.
I absolutely agree. Science Diet is overpriced and the ingredients are on par with grocery store brands IMO.

I love Natura products and solely feed my corgis that. Both of my corgis are on Evo which is basically raw food in kibble form (no grains and all meat!). Neither is overweight nor have I ever had any weight issues.

Dog Food Project is a great link I refer lots of people to.
I agree with Aloha on the websites listed and some of those foods.

I'm not so sure it's necessary to step up to IAMS though. That would mean your dog would have to adjust to different foods several times, one of which is inferior to the ones listed.

I'm feeding my dog Mac Blue Buffalo Wilderness right now. I'll probably rotate Innova's Evo in when I run out.

Oh, but I would also note, Canidae released a new grain free forumula that received 5 stars on dogfoodanalysis.com. I registered on their website a weeks ago to get updates. This morning I got a $5.00 coupon for the new grain-free formula 30 pound bag.

Finally, I would also say, it can take a long time for a dog to adjust to a new food, more than just a week or two.
Agreed with Aloha. Science Diet at one time was excellent food. However, the CP buyout has caused their quality to suffer tremendously. A cursory look at the ingredient list will prove it. To Aloha's list of foods I would add Natural Balance. We've had excellent results with it. Two of our dogs have horrible allergies and have done very well on this food. The dogfoodanalysis site is an excellent one, albeit you will have info overload for a bit! Choose the very best nutrition you can afford and it will go a long way to giving you a healthy dog. (And congrats on the upcoming new pup. You're in for a treat.)
Camber like Science Diet the best. We start with tablespoon of the wet dog food with real hot water and few drops of flaxseed oil, mix that around and then mix in the dry. I think the wet with the hot water makes for a good aroma and gets her hungry. I do not like using wet dog food, but it's so little.

We do a lot of cooking at home, and I think all the meat & such smells has made Camber a food snob. Not any slop in a bowl will do for her, but we do not really feed her any human food. She like pungent cheese, and will give her just the smallest amount possible just to get her chops licking! Roquefort and Camenbert are among her fav's. Just a speck gets her going. She also adores lamb leg bones, but we haven't cooked a leg of lamb in about a month. I think she reminds us of that too!

We tried Nutro and she was not into it at all, and often would skip meals. Now she is hanging near bowl before feeding time. We had to cut down her portion size a touch now that she eats twice a day regularly.
I would go with an all natural dog food with no fillers!

I'm feeding my 4 month old Canidae, and he seems to love it.

Plus, it has great reviews!!
All righty then time to go hunting for a new dog food. Thanks for the list. Aloha.

I must admit the focus on his food right now is the not eating me part. He is psycho mouthy now that teething is in full force.
My fluffy corgi is from Heronsway kennels and Anne Bowes has been breeding corgis for more than 40 years. Her dedication to our breed earned her the 2007 AKC Herding Group Breeder of the Year. When we were in the process of obtaining Linus from her, food was a hot topic of discussion and she was very frank. I know that it is opinion; however, consider her experience with our breed. Anne recommends Eagle Pack Holisitic Chicken and Rice Select. She was adamant, I have followed her instructions and all three of my corgis thrive on Eagle Pack. Anne was also adamant about not using Science Diet which is peddled upon veterinary students while in school.

All the best: Bear, Tasha and Linus (Nancy, too)
My vet pushes science diet too. Would I feed it to my dogs? Absolutely not! Aloha is right, there are many other brands out there that are much better. Any dog food with grain is totally out for us, Charlie is allergic to grain. We switched to natural balance sweet potatoe and fish about a year ago. Thankfully, he doesn't have runny poopy pants anymore. Have you named your baby yet?
I imagine Science Diet has an agreement with some vet offices. There are packages that include discounts for it at my vet's office.

I personally love Wellness brand. My puppy had very watery eyes when I first got him. When I switched him to Wellness, his tear stains were gone in about two weeks.
